I thought it was a federal law that required you to be 21 to legally buy a handgun, but I'm not so sure.

Anyways, How old do you have to be to buy a handgun in the state of Nevada?

The referenced document says 21 for purchase from a licensed dealer. It also says 18 for purchase from an unlicensed seller. (Private transaction)

So, if purchased from an unlicensed seller, would it be registered or in any kind of data base?

The reason I ask is because of last nights CSI episode were an 18 yo man bought an SP101 which was later used by his mother to kill who she thought killed her son. And of course, they found on there computers that the man had purchased the gun, and put two and two together.

So, I'm just curious if an 18yo could buy a handgun, and if that purchase would be on any kind of database, or registration list, etc.

Wow, didn't realize so many states you could buy a handgun at 18. Thanks for the link.

Nothing personal, but you're creeping me out now. Are you planning a murder? This just sounds all wrong all of a sudden.

Unless your state has a gun registration requirement (Mine doesn't even have registration forms) the only database it would get into is if it was already in one for some reason.

Few states have a paper trail requirement for private sales.

Keep in mind that you have to be a legal resident of whatever state you are in, and not prohibited by law for some reason, to purchase a handgun legally. Even in a private sale.

Also, keep in mind that all sorts of things are possible and happen in television shows that are for drama or entertainment value and have absolutely nothing based in reality.

Did you read my post right above yours? I just wanted to know before I got all up in arms like "that can't happen!".

NO, I'm not planning anything, besides, I'm older than 21 anyways, so if I was planning something, the min. age requirement would affect me anyways. I was just curious for my own knowledge, and wouldn't you know, I learned something, that I didn't know before I started this post.
