Ok, this is not a police bashing thread, nor am I judging what happened as I was not there. Or, maybe I am. What scares me is that between two officers 50 rounds of ammo were expended and the suspect was only hit 3 times. It sounds from the news story that he was not hiding but standing on a balcony pointing the pellet gun at officers. He had shot one of them in the face. According to the report, the guy fired the pellet gun 3 times hitting a cop twice. I think I have that correct. Are Metro officers trained to just spray bullets hoping they hit something? They were shooting at an apartment building, where did the other rounds go?

One bad guy, 3 rounds expended, 2 hits.

Two cops, 50 rounds expended, 3 hits.

And people don't want us private folks carrying firearms? We should leave it to the cops and military? Shouldn't this give them pause?

P.S. I didn't realize Metro was still using 9mil's. I thought the FBI proved beyond a reasonable doubt that it is underpowered for the job. Maybe they should be armed with pellet guns?

A few years back I heard a story about two State Troopers (Utah I think) that fired 32 rounds at two suspects next to a Suburban....and didn't hit ANYTHING, vehicle or perps!

article said:
36-year-old Bryan Keith Day walked out of a neighboring apartment and stared at officers who told Day he needed to go inside or leave.

Police say they don't know why Day returned with a gun and shot Officer Keith McIntyre once in the face and twice in the chest before officers shot about 60 rounds, killing Day. McIntyre was treated for a cut on his cheek.

Police had no right to tell him to leave. He was perfectly within his rights to "stare" at them and be a witness to their actions.

Ordering people to do things that they don't have to do only causes problems, ESPECIALLY when it turns out they are crazy.

Looks like he got three hits on one officer who doesn't know how to take cover. And the lack of marksmanship is CRIMINAL, in my opinion. It only goes to show that they had their excuse to shoot a perp and they weren't going to run for cover and miss their opportunity.

I am NOT saying an officer is not justified in shooting a man that points and shoots a pellet gun at them. It's the totality of these circumstances that is very questionable.

My understanding was he came back out and tucked it in his belt. Was told to go back in, drew and fired. As usual there are many "points" to this story, but I was specifically talking about the marksmanship.

I wish the past Henderson City Attorney was still on the job. She once said to me that she didn't believe I was qualified to carry a firearm, and what made me think that if a bad guy showed up that I had the skills to "save the day." That "firearms should be left to the professionals like the police and military." I told her that it was not my intention to "save the day', just protect myself."

Seriously, could anyone do any worse than these trained professionals? One well placed timed shot beats a hundred random ones any day. Mac is right, duck, cover, call SWAT.

Shot with an airsoft, 6mm, officers and deceased were both idiots. Must been one hell of a airsoft pistol to cut his cheek. But it will be ruled justified the deceased could have put out an eye. Clearly they were in fear for their life from an airsoft pistol.

Officers can't hit the side of barn meets Darwin award winner.

Play really stupid games, win really stupid prizes.

As for the cops - has anybody photoed their pattern? (Just asking.) Is the .mil still teaching suppressive fire until the designated guy who knows how to aim shows up?

stay safe.
