LEX airport quickie post

Just a quick post I wanted to make; I have to pick up my mother from the LEX/Bluegrass airport tonight at around midnight, and I'll be Open Carrying, gotta find a place to park and walk inside and help her with some excess luggage that she picked up along her vacation out west, and she can't carry it all. I plan on being outside of the security zone, and waiting for her.

Does anyone know if LEX/BG learned their lesson from the KC3 cases, and will ignore and obey the state pre-emption? Or should I expect to get tackled and hog-tied by twenty-seven TSA, KSP, and LPD troops in full SWAT gear once I step out of my car and get remotely near the entrance?

If I don't make a reply by the morning, then someone assume I got wrongfully arrested and find me a good lawyer! a couple of you have my RL info and can pass it off, also have that lawyer bring me a cigarette, and a non-diet Soda! I prefer menthols, but any flavour will do really.

You have a short memory, Drake. There is a whole thread about this problem here on OCDO. You posted in that thread at post #25, on Jan. 9, 2014. HB 127 was introduced in Jan of this year to fix this. HB 127 could not get a hearing. Here is a link to that thread:

http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/showthread.php?113395-Bluegrass-Airport

You are correct as usual, my memory has slipped me a bit with the time.

So, I got to the airport, and there are STILL signs on the doors, and every door, stating NO FIREARMS beyond this point. I was about to ignore it, when an LPD officer told me to put my gun in the car or he'd trespass me. He was off-duty, but drove a LPD cruiser, polo shirt, black man, well groomed, khaki shorts. No badge, but he was OC his service pistol. Because it was of import for me to be at the airport for to pick up someone, I complied and put my pistol in the car, and went back in, with an empty holster with loaded magazines in the mag pouches on the holster.

So... Looks like the Airport, and the LPD, hasn't learned their lesson...

DrakeZ, my question is this: "What are you going to do about their signage?", or alternately, "What are the steps that you propose to take?"

You've been around OCDO long enough to have picked up some tips on how to handle such things, so how about it?

Call his bluff. The sign is illegal and is just waiting to be challenged. Could win a fair amount from the local PD for unlawful arrest as well if you're lucky

I go to pick up my mom's upper middle-class Californian Boyfriend from the airport on Thursday I believe, I hoep the signs are down now, but if not, I guess we'll see how it goes.

Reason I'm making this comment on this dead post, is I wanted to check on any updates, the thread Gutshot last responded to about the airport, isn't updated.

Now, what are the odds my moms BF is gonna flip sh*t, considering he lives in a gated neighborhood in san fran, and told her he has never been any closer to a gun, in his life, than what the cops wear. Side thought, maybe I won't have to have that "never break my moms heart, or make her cry..." talk with him on the way home.

Why the hostility, Gutshot?

I didn't answer the questions because I didn't feel like it, just wanted a simple update from the people who are closer to it and closer to sources then me, Christ man.

You want your questions answered, but don't reciprocate. You got to write 'em to get 'em, Drake. Your "simple update" sounds a lot like, "I wanted to see if somebody had fixed all of my problems, while I did absolutely nothing".

I don't know why you like to talk-down at me, Gutshot; You may be one of a handful of people who are hardcore activists for the cause, but that doesn't make you better than everyone else, nor give you reason to sound the way you do. Yea, I didn't answer a couple questions, mostly because I disregarded them, and moved on. I know you may think, or feel, that I don't do enough to support open carry rights in our state, or that I'm not as open and out there as someone like my fellow Bath Countian, Self Pres, but that doesn't mean that I don't do my fair share. I don't like being in the spot light, and I don't like being out-there. I prefer to work behind the scenes, to lay-low, and do my part as best that I can, without making a name for myself. Y'all got a problem with that, then you need to check yourselves, and think about getting off your darn soapbox.

I've never had a problem with anyone of this sub-forum, other than differences of opinions, and feelings, and I respect everyone's opinions, even if my own is in stark contrast of theirs, but won't take being talked down to, because some of some grump's feelings of everyone being as hardcore as their selves.

I work a minimum wage job, and my sole mode of transportation is a fuel-guzzling SUV, so I cannot drive all over the state to do check ups and other crap that you yourself like to boast about being able to do, but when I do come and go to places outside of my area, like Lexington, or even L-ville, I like to sorta know ahead of time what I can expect, and if anything has changed, from the people who CAN AFFORD to keep visual tabs on things. I'm sorry that's not good enough for your fancy tastes, but quit taking it out on me.

For what it's worth; Will be OC my hi-point in a properly secured holster. I expect that I will be confronted by security, and/or law enforcement. But, I hope that I won't. I'm writing down a number for KC3 and ACLU on a card to keep on my person in case I am illegally arrested/detained for legally openly carrying. I will NOT go, or be near the Security checkpoint, nor the TSA and federal controlled portions of the airport will firearms are restricted/forbidden. I plan to park in the parking garage, and accompany my mother, who is begging me not to Open Carry, because she doesn't want me to get arrested for open carrying, and breaking the signs on the doors that say firearms prohibited. I told her over the phone about the state pre-emption, and the law being on my side, but she is being edgy, but accepting.

Guys, I have a favour to ask anyone here, who is on friendly terms with myself; if you see a guy with pink hair on the news, being arrested, please, contact KC3, or a firearms law attorney, and send them my way.

Gutshot complains that I don't reciprocate, and others think I may not do enough, well, I hope you're happy with this. I'm scared of police, and afraid of sitting in a jail cell, but if it earns me the respect of those who have no respect for me, and proves my loyalty to the Constitution of the U.S., and Kentucky, and helps advance the LAW-ABIDING, LEGAL, PROTECTED, right to open carry, then so be it. I really hope nothing goes on, I'd like to have a nice dinner with him and my mother.

Furthermore;

I have read the airport's guide on policy, or whatever.

http://www.bluegrassairport.com/documents/lfucabRulesandRegs-3.pdf

Section Five - Fire and Safety, 14. Firearms and Weapons.

No Person (excluding Airport Public Safety Officers, commissioned law enforcement officers,
Federal Air Marshals, Federal Flight Deck Officers and government commissioned peace officers)
may carry, possess, use or store any Firearm, ammunition, explosive or destructive device or other
deadly Weapons in any form inside the Passenger Terminal or on Airport property, except to the
extent that Firearms or Weapons (excluding explosives) are properly encased for shipment with an
airline to be lawfully transported on an Aircraft as cargo or checked baggage and actually delivered
to an airline before the Person approaches the security checkpoint.

Part A;

To the extent not prohibited by other applicable law and subject to subsection A of this
Regulation, Firearms or Weapons (excluding explosives) that are not encased for shipment
may be brought onto Airport property within a motor vehicle and remain in such motor
vehicle while the motor vehicle remains on Airport property so long as the motor vehicle
never enters any building (provided, that for purposes hereof, the parking structures located
on the Airport shall be deemed not to constitute buildings) or any portion of AOA.

Now, the guide was said to be revised on 6/23/2013, with the notation of "Firearms and Weapons", but it seems they didn't revise anything at all, because they STILL ENFORCE ILLEGAL POLICIES, and STILL GO AGAINST STATE-LAW.

Now, comments?

Drake, I'm not going to respond point by point to your diatribe, but I will say that both gutshot and I asked reasonable questions, and made reasonable statements about your willingness to lay out issues here, then by your silence and/or inaction, indicate that someone else should respond or act on those matters. The nicest thing I can say about that approach is "How self-centered!". As for being spoken to in a "condescending" manner, I disagree.

Now it appears that you're going to throw yourself into the maw of airport security, IMHO completely unprepared. It appears that your purpose is to gain respect, but doing so unprepared and with the apparent mindset you have is a recipe for disaster - also IMHO.

I think the better approach with regard for whatever level of activism you're comfortable with, and with the sniping/gripes/whatever of those with whom you take issue with (and vice versa) is for you to have a no-holds barred conversation with those whom you speak about and those who speak about you.

I don't think anyone is asking you to prove yourself or prove your 'loyalty', but rather I think the notion exists (rightly or wrongly) that your level of "activism" is simply pointing out issues, yet playing no role in resolving them.

If you're willing, I'd be glad to talk to you by phone about the points you've raised, because typing, typing, typing is more than I can bear - and I think a two-way conversation is more productive anyway. Unfortunately, for the next week and a half or so I'm absolutely buried with work.

Your posts deserved a response, and I've tried to give you one.

I had 87.650 printed up in three copies and folded neatly in one of my back pockets, and my audio recorder on, and my phone's recorder on too with a secure 15 digit passcode. It was actually a decent carry, picked up my mother's BF with no real problems, other than a travel agent for United saying I can't wear it in the airport, to which I gave her a copy of the KRS, and walked away.

Also OC'd at natural bridge lodge, with no problems, all the Anti-gun signs I saw at the board at Natural bridge's lodge was gone since the last time I visited it last early spring.

Put my spare pistol on his [mother's BF's] belt on his hip, and he got rather used to it, said he might buy into a vacation home here in the bluegrass, if not to be closer to my mother, than to do what he can't in his home of California.
