Now that we've identified all players, my two cents:
One continues to choose to god the other one on, "poking the gorilla," so to speak.
The other one continues to choose to react, a self-defeating exercise in futility if ever there was one.
This forum doesn't need a moderator. It needs mature responsible members, including those who know well enough to stop sadistically poking the gorilla as well as those who know well enough to overlook insult>
eye95, I suggest you simply put your antagonist on ignore. That's what it's for, and it works as designed. Works wonders. You're certainly not going to change him, and this forum was often over-moderated IMHO, a trait which lead to much lower participation rates here as it invariably does on all the other forums on which I've seen over-moderation.
Effective moderation is fairly easy:
- Review complaints.
- Observe behavior.
- If the behavior seriously violates the rules, give one warning, along with a link to the rules. Log it.
- If the behavior continues, give the offender a week's vacation. Log it.
- If the behavior continues, give the offender a month's vacation. Log it.
- If the behavior continues, give the offender a year's vacation. Log it.
- Due to temporary IP address assignment by ISPs, as well as VPNs and other proxies, IP address banning is both ineffective as well as harmful to others who might be assigned a banned IP address. Don't use it.
- Coordinate Month-long bannings with the other moderators. Solicit suggestions.
- Coordinate Year-long bannings with both moderators and owners.
Color of Law, if you would, I respectfully request you show mature constraint and not poke the bear, er, gorilla. Same goes for everyone. First, it's not polite. Second, it's not mature. Third, it's not productive. Fourth, it degrades the overall forum, as it's a place to discuss serious 2A and OC issues.
eye95, if you would, consider turning the other cheek. If you find that difficult or impossible, I suggest you use the Ignore function to silence that which ails you.
