I'm going to try and make it tonight. I won't be able to make it tomorrow or Friday because I'm going home tomorrow afternoon for the weekend. I'm actually going home so I can go to the gun show at Chantilly.

I was going to but I ended up going home last weekend instead because plans came up down here. I also need to refrain from spending money on guns right now. I am happy with what I have right now and need a job before I can get more lol

Haha, I know what you mean. I'm afraid I'm going to spend a lot more than I should this weekend. I'm going to try and control myself.

If you are unrelated to the school I believe it is fine since you are not under the school code you are under the law. The law says carry is fine on college campuses with arguably the exceptions of VCU and GMU. Not 100% sure so let someone else jump in and confirm if they can.

I sent philip an email through the vcdl website, we'll see what they have to say.

And it had a typo.... Ooooops.

Eta: They just changed his location to TBA... Wonder if it'll be a dorm or classroom...

That is a good question hmm I can't find the code talking about the classrooms and dorms but I did find an interesting thing about high schools. A guy was expelled from the school for having a paintball gun in his car with no ammo and no barrel on it. I knew a lot of paintball players/refs at my school and it was such a BS charge. It's legal to have an unloaded firearm on k-12 property if it's in your car. Pretty interesting.

§ 18.2-308.1. Possession of firearm[/b], stun weapon, or other weapon on school property prohibited.
A. If any person possesses any (i) stun weapon as defined in this section; (ii) knife, except a pocket knife having a folding metal blade of less than three inches; or (iii) weapon, including a weapon of like kind, designated in subsection A of § 18.2-308, other than a firearm[/b]; upon (a) the property of any public, private or religious elementary, middle or high school, including buildings and grounds; (b) that portion of any property open to the public and then exclusively used for school-sponsored functions or extracurricular activities while such functions or activities are taking place; or (c) any school bus owned or operated by any such school, he shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.
B. If any person possesses any firearm[/b] designed or intended to expel a projectile by action of an explosion of a combustible material while such person is upon (i) any public, private or religious elementary, middle or high school, including buildings and grounds; (ii) that portion of any property open to the public and then exclusively used for school-sponsored functions or extracurricular activities while such functions or activities are taking place; or (iii) any school bus owned or operated by any such school, he shall be guilty of a Class 6 felony; however, if the person possesses any firearm[/b] within a public, private or religious elementary, middle or high school building and intends to use, or attempts to use, such firearm[/b], or displays such weapon in a threatening manner, such person shall be sentenced to a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of five years to be served consecutively with any other sentence.
The exemptions set out in § 18.2-308 shall apply, mutatis mutandis, to the provisions of this section. The provisions of this section shall not apply to (i) persons who possess such weapon or weapons as a part of the school's curriculum or activities; (ii) a person possessing a knife customarily used for food preparation or service and using it for such purpose; (iii) persons who possess such weapon or weapons as a part of any program sponsored or facilitated by either the school or any organization authorized by the school to conduct its programs either on or off the school premises; (iv) any law-enforcement officer; (v) any person who possesses a knife or blade which he uses customarily in his trade; (vi) a person who possesses an unloaded firearm[/b] that is in a closed container, or a knife having a metal blade, in or upon a motor vehicle, or an unloaded shotgun or rifle in a firearms[/b] rack in or upon a motor vehicle; or (vii) a person who has a valid concealed handgun permit and possesses a concealed handgun while in a motor vehicle in a parking lot, traffic circle, or other means of vehicular ingress or egress to the school. For the purposes of this paragraph, "weapon" includes a knife having a metal blade of three inches or longer and "closed container" includes a locked vehicle trunk.
As used in this section:
"Stun weapon" means any device that emits a momentary or pulsed output, which is electrical, audible, optical or electromagnetic in nature and which is designed to temporarily incapacitate a person.

The classroom and dorm determination is in AG OP. NO. 05-078(yeat 2006), as cited other places on this forum.

Received a reply...

"It would be legal, but the school still could tell you that you can't
carry in the building and it would be trespass if you stayed. If you
have a CHP, that might be better."

Goes against this though...

"It is well established in Virginia that a university, through its board, "‘has not only the powers expressly conferred upon it, but it also has the implied power to do whatever is reasonably necessary to effectuate the powers expressly granted.’" This broad authority does not, however, supersede statutory or case law, public policy, or explicit statements of the General Assembly regarding specific topics. (10) The powers expressly conferred and possessed by the governing body of an educational institution include the authority "[t]o establish rules and regulations for the conduct of students while attending such institution" (11) and "[t]o establish rules and regulations for the employment of professors, teachers, instructors, and all other employees and provide for their dismissal for failure to abide by such rules and regulations." (12) The University of Virginia has promulgated a "Security and Firearms Policy," which provides that "[t]he possession, storage, or use of any kind of ammunition, firearms, fireworks, explosives, air rifles and air pistols on University-owned or operated property, without the expressed written permission of the University Police, is prohibited." (13) It is my opinion that the safe operation of the campus allows regulation of, or under limited circumstances, prohibition of, firearms by any persons attending events on campus, visiting dormitories or classroom buildings, attending specific events as invitees, or under any circumstance permitted by law. The universal prohibition of firearms by properly permitted persons other than students, faculty, administration, or employees, however, is not allowed under law. A board of visitors has responsibility for the protection of the students enrolled at their university. At the same time, the rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States (14) and by Article I, § 13, of the Constitution of Virginia, (15) which protect all citizens, may not be summarily dismissed for transient reasons. In light of the General Assembly’s specific statements regarding the limits of carrying concealed handguns and the grant of authority to colleges and universities to regulate the conduct of students and employees, it is my opinion that neither a board of visitors nor a president of a public college or university may infer authority from its enabling legislation to adopt a universal prohibition of carrying concealed handguns by holders with valid permits.

The right to carry openly has not been revoked by the General Assembly."

Same cite as above.

I guess I won't carry, don't have the $$$ to be the test case for the AG opinion.

Eta: any building with "Hall" in the name probably includes class rooms, it would be able to be regulated as well :(

Alright, I'll definitely be there tonight. I'm the younger looking guy with red hair.

Anyone else going to be attending?

Also... The GunRights.org site lists the location as the HHS building, then says that is the old harrisonburh highschool... That is incorrect. The old school is Memorial Hall, the same location as the other speakers. HHS is the Human and Health Services building, as displayed in the latest VA-Alert. Different address, be careful.

Wish I could go tonight. HHS is right next to my dorm (Potomac). But I just got back home in NOVA this afternoon. I'm ready for the gun show tomorrow!

I'll be at the Bristow OC lunch from noon 'till 1ish then arrive at the show around 1:30 to get a front spot in line and for parking. If we haven't met before, I'll be the big guy with a holstered gun wearing a VCDL shirt :).

It was totally all planned to show your options in event of a gun attack when unarmed. Die or throw yourself out a window.

Okay, it wasn't, but it really hurt:(
