since nobody else has done it yet...
A summary of our uneventful afternoon:
There were 5 of us, which is probably the smallest group so far.
But that was fine because the Starbuck's was pretty crowded - all tables / chairs inside & out were taken when Tom & I arrived.
The manager was really nice, as were the rest of the staff, of course,
and over the course of the afternoon the 5 of us wearing hardware probably talked with at least 10 people who approached us, answering their questions about open carry, the current laws, & the coming law changes.
We handed out several WI Carry cards, referred people to the legal & forum links there, & to OCDO. Hopefully we'll get a few new members, but at least a bunch of people got educated, even those who didn't get brave enough to talk with us.
That's part of why I chose that location, because it's a higher-crime area than the other Starbuck's we've been to, & the people need to know their options. Pointed a few people to resources for finding a safety class, because they wanted training in order to cc.
One lady, Bonnie, sat with us pretty much the whole time. Tom & I invited ourselves to her table after she'd approached us inside, & wasn't it nice that she & her friends had a couple empty chairs by then?
We saw one PD car sitting in the block just the other side of Capitol for a while,
and I think we only saw 1 drive by.
None of the people I invited by email showed up. :uhoh:
I was hoping at least Lena Taylor or Sheriff Clarke would drop by.
As usual, nobody freaked out, nobody ran away (in terror or otherwise), & other than being warm it seemed a good time was had by all.
So we're looking forward to next month's northside coffee,
& Brian will be planning another Pancake House event,
& Tom will be planning a Sunday (IIRC) brunch.
