How do you justify OC?

Need, you say? Per your request: Only gangsters from the 1920s and Nazi soldiers from WWII need to carry concealed. I open carry as I am none of the aforementioned groups. Sorry if that sting, but the psychotic ranting against[insert gun rights faction here]is divisive and divisiveness only helps whom seek the destruction of our freedom.

Could someone explain the "I don't OC because I don't want to look like a target" thing to me?

#1. Do you think a Polled Hereford is less likely to be a target of a predator than a Longhorn, even if the Hereford has hidden horns and breaths fire?

#2. Let's consider two banks, both with equally armed guards. Bank A has them posing as customers and tellers and Bank B has them in uniforms and standing in plain sight. Is Bank B more, or less likely to be robbed than Bank A, which as far as anyone knows is completely unprotected.

#3. There are two small town, each with comparable populations and police forces to keep order. In Town A, all the police wear civilian clothes and drive unmarked cars. Town B has its police wear distinctive uniforms and specially marked very visible cars to patrol with. Which town is most likely to have a lower crime rate do you think?

#4. There are two countries, Country A has a civil defense force that never has parades, wears no uniforms, lives in no forts, and never conducts any exercises visible outside the country. Country B has a comparably equipped army, wears uniforms, is visibly armed and equipped, and its training and equipment are well publicized. Which country is most likely not to be attacked in the first place?

As I wrote on the other thread:

With the exception of one Gecko21sfpistol, I can draw faster from OC than CC. :shocker:

I like the strategic advantage of OC over the tactical advantage of the CC only crowd :dude:

I always used a similar analogy. Two identical houses, side by side, with identical contents inside. The only difference is one house has a very large, very toothy dog on the front porch.
Which one would you rob?

Two men of similar stature and dress are standing on opposite ends of the street. One of them is wearing a gun, the other is not.
Do you risk getting shot or go for what you think is a sure thing?

...it's really not that hard...

They would shoot the dog first of course! (sarcasm).....oh wait there is a certain subset of people who do seem to shoot a lot of dogs....

open carry

like you said don't have to pay. other reasons is some cops will stop a car when they run the tag and it comes back chp. im not a criminal if im not breaking traffic laws leave me alone. plus I know I feel safe in an establishment ,when unarmed, if I see some one else has a side arm. most criminals wont blatantly carry a fire arm exposed on their hip. also most legal gun owner don't commit firearms related crimes. and as to the chambered issue goes, if im out in public I keep it chambered. they say it takes the same amount of time to chamber a round as it does to release the safety. I have tested that theory at the range and with me, I cant speak for others, but that's just not true.

What's to justify?

I am a perishable fleshy being and OC helps me prevent myself from perishing.

I simply explain that I will not commit violent crime and that if I must shoot, I will stop when the threat is resolved, whereas no one knows where a criminal will stop.
Also that LEO's are not charged with protection, only investigating/pursuing crime and suspects afterward. IMO legal recourse after being attacked or killed is not quite justice.

From now on I'm going to justify it by referring to last nights experience. The ONE time I conceal this week, look what happens. But then again I have a deputy shoved up my....

"How do you justify OC?"

I don't justify wearing pants.

I don't justify being born white and male.

I don't justify painting my toenails pink.

I don't justify cussing if I damn well feel like it.

I don't justify OCing in a Speedo just to give the "you OC cuz you have a small dick" crowd something to think about.

I don't justify the previous sentence.

I don't justify this post.

I don't justify right when I use the word processor.

I don't justify. I don't have to.

And yet your ENTIRE reply was "JUSTIFIED LEFT"--- and so is mine!

I don't owe anyone any explanation for my lawful behavior. Period. I don't have to justify my lawful behavior to anyone regardless of uniform or not.

The less you say to anyone about your firearms, and in fact I suggest you say nothing and ignore all discussion of any firearm you might be carrying, the better. It's like a sock. I don't even know it's there now.

Now there's the element of education so you could direct him to this website for that task.

Kinda hard to educate without discussing.

I suppose one could wordlessly hand them a card. Perhaps throw in a glare for good measure?

The more people that OC, the more visibility the 2nd Amendment gets. Which hopefully means more acceptance and understanding. Unfortunately, some people think that OC makes them a target, draws attention, trying to get into a confrontation with a LEO, blah, blah, blah. Bring OC to Florida, please!
