My kid would NOT be going back to that school, period.
The Summerville Police Department who arrested Stone on Tuesday on a charge of disorderly conduct is disputing Stone's account of his arrest.
Disorderly conduct laws need to be flushed. It is a bullsh&#t catch-all charge.

OLD NEWS

Well, I suppose since the story line is almost three years old...

perhaps Color, your kid might have graduated already.

Still find it relevant.

Reminds me of the story written by Fred Reed about the high school boy who got expelled.

Seems the school had given out a bunch of free condoms. Then they caught one of the boys praying in school...for a chance to use it.

As Fred wrote, "That didn't actually happen. Doesn't mean it isn't true."

Teach 'em history including the history of war, but expel them for mentioning a gun.

Wonder how this all turned out. Did not find an answer via a quick search.

South Carolina Teen Hit With Criminal Charges For Writing Story About Killing Dinosaur With A Gun

May 23, 2016 by Jacquelyn Gray

A 16-year-old South Carolina boy was arrested, suspended, and charged with disorderly conduct after penning a story about shooting a dinosaur for his creative-writing class.

Alex Stone is a student at Summerville High School. For an assignment in his creative writing class, he was told to write a few sentences about himself along with a “status” as if it were on his Facebook page. “I killed my neighbor’s pet dinosaur, and, then, in the next status I said I bought the gun to take care of the business,” the teen explained to WHNS.

So, which sub-paragraph does Officer Friendly have a a reasonable suspicion was violated?

The only real lesson to be learned here is "Do Not Talk to the Police" which has been said again and again on this and many other forums.

This appears more in-line with a first amendment issue.. The student and family hopefully were compensated from the school and police department..
If they were indeed compensated, I would suspect a gag order was imposed. Hence no additional information on clearly a first amendment violation along with some other violations of the young students rights..
