was up at walmart tonight with my ma. well she had to use the bathroom and asked if i could do the whole check out thing so that we could leave and not waste time. so i went back to the video section to check out. the employee back there(did not catch his name, had black hair that was a little long) told me that i could not open carry.
not the exact words but as close as i can remember

him: you know i retired from the sheriffs dept. up in maryland
me: (wondering what brought this up) ok
him: so what do you do
me: i am in between jobs at the moment
him: so your not a cop
me: no why
him: why do you have a gun then
me: personal protection.
him: you know we just had someone arrested because they wanted to carry a gun around town with them.
me: you do know that it is legal according to your corporate policy.
him: well we have a bank in here and it is apart of the store and that is why the took him away. they waited for him outside.
me: well it might have been something else then.
him: well you do what you want just remember i told you

i paid and left to go back up front. at that point i went to one of the managers to ask them about this. the lady that i talked to said that she did not know and went to ask another manager or he was one step up cuz he wore a dress shirt and dress pants. he then came over and told me dont worry that if i want to OC or CC in the store then i m more then welcome. he then went to say that he has had a problem with this guy and would deal with him later. at that point i had not told him who it was that i had the problem with. he then went to tell me that he was sorry and to have a good night. all in all the guy up front manager or someone high up took me by surprise. left feeling pretty good.

later on went into radio shack were one of the stores employee asked if i was legal when i said yes we went on with the convo like nothing had happened.

all in all good night, oh and i will post the walmart story in a new post.

Popped my OC cherry!

Advanced Auto on Nimmo

Wal-Mart on Nimmo Pkwy

Performance Bike on VB Blvd

Harris Teeter @ Oceanfront

First was AA, not even a second glance, then after I finished paying and turned to leave I got a "holy shit!" from the cashier. Then at Wal-Mart no one really noticed until I was in line waiting to check out, no one wanted to stand behind me, the next line over was about 20 people long, so I got a chuckle from that. The bike shop gave nary a peep. At Harris Teeter I was paying when an attractive older woman came up behind me and started to unload her groceries, then she must have seen it for she looked at me and slowly backed away. More chuckles from me. All in all a good time, definately going to be doing more of it!

What are you doing to frighten all these people? Do you look like a skinhead with an attitude or something?:D

By the way, last weekend my wife and I went to dinner with 3 other couples at the Rivers Inn in Gloucester Point. I don't think anyone even noticed.

"Funny smirk" can run a wide gamut. Are you talking Mr. Rogers/Captain Kangaroo or Jack Nicholson/ Anthony Hopkins?

I though OC in a church was a no-no unless you had permission? Am I mistaken?

As far as I know you can't carry in any way, in a Church with or without permission.

§ 18.2-283. Carrying dangerous weapon to place of religious worship.

If any person carry any gun, pistol, bowie knife, dagger or other dangerous weapon, without good and sufficient reason, to a place of worship while a meeting for religious purposes is being held at such place he shall be guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor.

This ONLY applies when a service is being held. And, evendurring a service, the "good and sufficient reason" is stillkind of up in the air. There has been no court ruling or AG opinion on what exactly a good and sufficient reason is, but I believe protection of my life and the lives of those around me is a goodand sufficient enoughreason. However, that may yet be determined by a judge.

A don't forget what might be included in a service (meeting for religious purposes): confessional, baptism, christening, prayer meeting, group meditation...

Indeed it can! Id say a combo of Mr. Rogers' innocence, Jack's cynicism, and Anthony's confidence. Honestly I just stroll along as if I dont have a care in the world :)

[align=left]went up to my friends work last night. kellys tavern off of laskin rd walked in got changefor a few pool games from the bartender. no problems. no odd looks nothing. my friend called me to the front where him and his girl where. all of a sudden i got a "oh my god" and a "do you have a permit for that?" friend steped in before i could and told them that i do not need a permit. end of that. went back with his girl and played one or two games of pool when the bartinder walks over and says "you cant have agun in here unless your a on duty cop." i asked why and she replied "because we serve alcohol." i told he that the law states that as long as you open carry you are alound in a restaurant that serves alcohol i even told he that i would go ahead and disarm and next time i would bring up the law for her. this is what i got, "well it is now kellys policy that you can not carry a gun in here." told my friends girl that i would be right back, went outside to disarm, when a man pulled up next to me and asked what kind of gun i had on my hip. me and the guy talked for a little bit, said he wanted to look at getting a gun and that he would head up to a & p. all and all the bartender sucked. i would have just left but my friend did not get oof few 2 more hours and i gave his girl a ride up there. why cant some people accept that a 19 knows more about some laws then they do. oh yeah i went to leave and found three marked cars outside of kellys. was told by my friend that there have never been that many there unless something was or was about to happen.

You should have left the establishment and taken your aprty with you - by backing down, and continueing to spend money there, you have made their policy a success.
