Thanks Grape. It really is very satisfying to watch their minds open up during those chats.

We can add the Bangor (Stillwater Ave) LL Bean to the OC list. Walked in looking for kayaks and talked with a couple associates and all was cool.

The rest of the day was in places we've been before.

While at the beach I overheard a man saying something about being "...in the cruiser from 7-3", but I didn't get a chance to chat with him before he left with his family. I think they were vacationing from out of state, but felt like I missed an opportunity there.

Goodwill in Bangor is a no go, company says ok unless customers complain. Was in with my wife and was asked to leave after about 15 mins of perusing. I had the Mgr. and Asst. mgr approach me together, as if they were worried I would try something upon being asked to leave. Both were very friendly and knew the OC laws and said they didn't have a problem but if I could cover it up. Supposedly customers were complaining. I started to tell then I didn't have a permitand I had to OC by state law. They concurred and said they understood and knew that but asked if I would wait outside for my wife. I agreed as to not piss off my wife who had an arm full of dresses. I sent out a letter to their corporate offices, awaiting a reply.

I'm a strong advocate of no guns no money, but with a woman that doesn't care too much about carrying it isn't so easy to draw that line in the sand. Is it SPOProds? Haha.

Yea, I didn't need my wife beating my azz because I woudn't let her by the 10 dresses for $15 lol

I'm also a fan of No Guns/No Money. I ended up personay boycotting many establishments in Connecticut. I haven't been to a CT mall in 2 years because they don't allow "weapons". Maine makes it much easier. The only 2 places I've seen "no guns" posted are at the post office and Orono PD. Orono PD should have fixed it by now. I'll be turning my Permit App in this week so I'll check if the sign has been changed.

Most places in Orono/Old Town are ok..... Bear Brew Pub, Woodmans Bar and Grille, The Circle K gasstations, IGA, Hannafords, Spotlight Cinemas, China Garden, Kingmans, Bank of America, People's Bank to just ramble off a few. Anywhere downtown Orono I've OCed in just about every business and restaurant there.

Had a similar situation once at Goodwill. My gf continued to finish her shopping at my insistence, while I stood outside their front door nodding and greeting all of the customers as they went in and out. Was much more noticeable that I was OCing under those circumstances.

Goodwill locally no longer has an anti stance - like to think that maybe I helped to change their mind.

-A stop at Hannaford's for a few things and we headed for the palace. I even shared a little banter with a mgr there and all was fine.

This is very interesting. I was at Hannaford in Saco today shopping for my groceries minding my own business when I was asked to leave my a manager by the name of Jim G. I told him that there was no sign on the door so I figured all is well. He told me it was a corporate rule. Was pretty sad seeing as I only shop at Hannaford. I guess it is time to bring my business to Shaw's until Market Basket opens.

Hmm. Interesting. I've open carried in that Hannaford before without incident. I will go there again tomorrow to see how it turns out.

Did you check with their HQ to see if it was actually company policy? I've carried more than a few times into the Hannahford down here without incident. And you know how most Portlanders are

Thanks boyscout please let us know how it goes.. I did go the night before without incident. The manager by the name of Jim G. who asked me to leave was also on the phone before he asked me to leave and a cruiser pulled in as I was pulling out. Not sure if it was for me or what. I am going to get ahold of someone in the corporate office and see what the policy is. I do find it odd seeing as no one else has seems to have a issue carrying in Hannaford. Hopefully Jim G. is just ignorant.

Happy to report that I contacted Hannaford's corporate office today by phone and they said that I was perfectly fine open carrying in Hannaford. I guess their policy is similar to Wal-Mart and they just follow each states laws. I asked them to please educate their managers on the policy. She was very nice and apologetic. She sent a message to the store informing them that there is no such policy regarding legally possessing a firearm in the store. She told me to go ahead and shop with my firearm and if Jim G. has a problem he can call corporate.

Under the circumstances, it would be good to have something to that effect in writing. Did you get the name and title of the person with whom you spoke?

If the manager were to call for a LEO and claim you were told to not return, how are going to respond? Tell them that a secretary said you could and that he could call corporate........really? What if It's 9:00 PM on a Saturday night?

Unfortunately I did not get names of the customer service rep I spoke with. Very good advice and valid points you have brought up sir. I shall call back Monday and get some answers as I am now curious myself. In the event that the ignorant manager decided to get LEO involved he can claim he said he told me not to come back all he wants I'm pretty sure that the cop would give me a trespass warning and if I went back after that then it would be a issue. I could be wrong here. Anyhow I'm sure the manager at Saco Hannaford knows that he was wrong and would not want to get himself into any trouble.

If you do end up getting it in writing, would you mind if I got a copy of it? That's the only grocery store I visit, and while I haven't had a problem yet, it never hurts to have more "ammo" should one arise some day.
