Got rally tonight - posted no firearms

GOP rally. I hate auto correct correct.

Decided to attend the rally tonight. 1st impressions - big mistake. I came back to the party to try to be part of fixing the mess at both the state & federal levels. I intentionally got here early to get a perspective & reconnect with some people. What is the first thing I see is a sign saying "No Firearms". This combined with no metal detectors & a handful of sheriff's deputies.

When I challenged it, I was told if I had a permit I could carry but they were not going to take the sign down. The more she tried to defend it, the more she sounded like an anti. It was frustrating they don't get it. Sadly, this is the best we have to choose from. I finally got too frustrated & gave up trying to educate her.

I know that the local candidates for governor, Senate & Congress don't have an issue with it as I have OC'd around them many times without incident. This anal position appears to be derived from the state GOP organization. I'm wondering if it doesn't have something to do with Jeb Bush coming.

Anyway, bad first impression. Hopefully it will get better as the night progresses.

Don't get me wrong, this is still the best horses we have in the race, but we have to fix the party if they are going to survive & be effective going forward. We need to win to fix anything.

Yeah I mean, wouldn't it look REALLY bad if you missed the sign and many people, maybe even the media got pictures or video of you carrying, or maybe you had an audio/video recorder around your neck, then pics or vids of them escorting you out for carrying were broadcast on YouTube? Maybe even the MSM would get in on that party. The only way to change is to take down the competition and convert the refugees. That would be the "smoking gun" in the true downfall of the Republican party. I can read the headline now, "Lawful Open Carrier escorted out of GOP rally; Republicans are hypocrites." If not for money, the party would have failed years ago. Both major parties are one in the same: Big Government Party.

I'm all about advocacy for the cause... but for me I think I would be unwilling to be the center of all that drama in the name of civil disobedience.

I really hope that someday people will understand the "no firearms" sign does nothing to promote safety. In a way I liken it to "security theater"... or the facade of safety.

I agree in that I like to keep a very low profile too. But whose actions are you characterizing as civil disobedience? If LEOs interfere with someone legally carrying openly, it is the LEOs who are committing civil disobedience.

Sometimes hypotheticals are useful:
If the host of the event (or the authorized representative) were to ask you to leave? Then what? Firstly there are questions, is this private or public property... is this leased property from the city... et cetera. Establish that firstly. Then even if you have the rights to stay and openly carry... and the Sheriff or LEO is wrongly asking you to leave, do you disobey the orders? Do the orders still carry the force of law? Does it become trespass? What then? There are many ways that even could play out. I've applied the term civil disobedience very loosely here.

You could be arrested. Nothing can stop that. Innocence [confirmed] (or guilt) would be determined at trial, or if you can convince the DA do not pursue. Anyone has the option for civil suit later. There are so many variables and choices.

Certainly anything can happen; occasionally innocent people are convicted of crimes. I was just making the general point that, in my opinion, legal open carry is not civil disobedience. Seems to me that civil disobedience involves "refusal to obey laws as a way of forcing the government to do or change something".

I totally agree with this. Any time there is a misunderstanding and you are right, a call to the office the next business day might cause them to do things right the second time around. Sometimes it is a failure to train.

I've found that politely asking someone for their name sometimes helps them rethink the issue.

There are no values in politics, only tricks to get more people on your side so you can win elections.
