Did you know that OC is legal? Have a pamphlet! Maybe you'll learn something about the laws you're sworn to uphold!

Thurston County is pretty good when it comes to OC. For a question since I spoke with Lori Flemm (Lacey Parks & Rec Director) about signs in Lacey parks saying that weapons aren't allowed. They notified Lacey police to ignore the signs, and not harass OC'ers. Just get a general feeling/opinion. Thurston Sheriff John Snazza is pro OC.

I applaud both you and the LEOs that you are working with. A healthy non-confrontational way to see how the "other guy rolls". I can pretty well guess that you will not be riding armed, eh?

Oh, don't do this..............

Then again, it's probably about the only situation you can be in where the old saw about the police being minutes away when seconds count won't be true.

..

When I went on a ride along a few years ago in Sumner, the officer told me there was a gun in the glove box "just in case I needed to use it." I even got to visit the jail in Puyallup while doing a prisoner transport and had to check in my knife with security while I was there. This was all before I had a handgun though. I suppose you'd just have to ask if you could carry your own. They do a pretty extensive background check on you before you can do a ride along anyway. Why would they not trust you.;)

I wish you a long night of coffee and doughnuts, with the most excitement being which doughnut to eat next and avoiding a tussle over the jelly filled doughnuts.

Will you be recording?

Hopefully they will have a MWAG call and you can see first hand how they deal with it as you would likely walkaway with a new perspective.

Ok I was asked though a pm how my ride along was! So ,lets start by saying I went with a new friend of mine,we've known ach other for about 2 weeks,he is a friend of my daughters. He is a deputy sheriffs and has been here for about 7 yrs, great guy, it was a very slow night,he wasn't called a single call,we went on a few as back up. We did check out 1 car, where the guy was so drunk he could not drive,my friend asked him if he could give the guy a ride home,we were at least 30 miles from the guys home,he accepted and we drove him home,I'll say this, even if it was just a show for me, he treated this guy with the utmost respect as good be,very polite with the guy,the guy did everything right as far as drinking and driving on his part,he was very intoxicated so he pulled over, took the keys out of the ignition and passed out in his back seat. We went and did a backup on a domestic violence call where the guy had a no contact,he did contact her and was in violation, went to last known address and tis guy answered completely naked, not sure why he was but the guy they were looking for was no longer there, said good night. This guy they were looking for had a history of fighting with the police, finally found him, they officer I was with was again very professional with how he spoke with him,had him get in the back of the Tahoe, without patting him down and cuffing him, checked with the Lacey pd to see if he was needed to be arrested, after finding out that they did want him,he talked to the guy and told him he neede to place him under arrest,I think myself, how he taked to this guy,and treated him made it so much better on how the arrest went, this guy I saw on the computer screen had no problems fighting with the police,I think the way the officer treated him made a big difference. I will talk to him a lot more about his feelings about cc and oc in the near future,I do know he likes if you inform him if you are cc'ing when you are stopped if you do something wrong. But is more forgiving if you are more upfront,if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the follow up. It's good to know that at least one can put on a polite show once in awhile.

I know the ones out in Kirkland will commit perjury all day long but can be very polite when putting you in to cuffs.
