The bill is co-sponsored by Reps. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., and Peter King, R-N.Y., and includes four additional original GOP co-sponsors: Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Fred Upton of Michigan, Chris Smith of New Jersey and Brian Mast of Florida.

"From the public polling to the ballot box, the American people have spoken up and demanded action to help end the tragedy of gun violence that far too many in our country face every day. We will continue our fight and we will deliver," said Thompson.

"When background checks are used, they keep guns out of the hands of people we all agree shouldn't have guns," said King.
Bad guys don't buy guns from gun shops.

I never knew "we all" agree on who shouldn't have guns.

Personally I side with th RTKABA, if a person is released from jail then they have the right to be armed.
If they are to dangerous to be armed they shouldn't be released. Because they simply will be armed laws or no law.

As to expanded background checks, all BC are infringement.

But good luck getting anyone with a brain to submit to a BC to own a gun.

Alas the good Governor from the State of Florida has remedied one wrong...the Sheriff of Boward County has been “suspended” and i hope unbiased house cleaning has begun!

I just wish other states had similar statutes to allow Governor, who has the cojones, to remove the inept .

It seems that 6 more have been terminated or resigned from the Broward County Sheriff's office.

1. Dismissed (Position eliminated): Col. Frank Adderley, who was part of suspended Sheriff Scott Israel’s command staff, oversaw community outreach and the civil division as well as courthouse operations and the 911 communications system.

2. Resigned: Col. John "Jack" Dale, who wrote on his resignation form, "Actions by governor not in the best interest of public safety." Dale was executive director for the agency’s department of professional standards and the department of investigations.

3. Resigned: Undersheriff Steve Kinsey, the second in command at the agency under Israel, who wrote on his form, "Due to the sheriff being suspended unjustly."

4. Resigned: Maj. Kevin S. Shults, who was in charge of training.

5. Resigned: Maj. Chadwick Wagner, a former Hollywood police chief who served as human resources director, said his reason for leaving included "the unjust decision by Gov. Ron DeSantis to remove Broward County Sheriff Scott J. Israel. Sheriff Israel has been twice elected by Broward County residents. This is a decision that only the resident voters of Broward County should decide."

6. Col. James Polan (no comments on his form)

Adderley, Dale, Kinsey, and Shults were among many high-ranking officials Israel hired from his former employer, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.

While I do not believe it's legal for a governor to remove an elected state official, this sheriff needed to be gone. Maybe by recall vote.

That said. The responding officers did what most responding officers to an active shooter not directly attacking them do. Enter after gathering an army and usually long after the shooting is over.

They were told by the school resource officer to stay 500 ft away from the building which they willingly did.
That whole event, as well as Vegas needs much more scrutiny by independent sources as to why and how they occurred.
