Supporting the law legitimizes the theory that Congress has the authority to infringe upon my gun rights. They don't.

Supporting the law would translate to "I guess you can infringe on my right to keep and bear arms....but only if you really mean it."

No. The Right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. And I'm not going to legitimize the issue by setting a higher bar for them to jump over.

Exactamundo!

Same purpose as "FEEL GOOD" gun restrictions

Even though it makes it harder for them to infringe our RTKBA, I see it as a step backwards, because it won't stop them in the future from going back to simple majority and it admits that it is a legitimate function of congress.

I think it's like an assault weapons ban. Won't change anything, but makes us feel better about ourselves. "Look, we did something!"

Well isn't that interesting, it appears that over 2/3 of the forum participants are against this law. That settles that...

Doing nothing has the same effect of legitimizing congress' power of passing gun control. They can already pass gun control and they can do it with a majority vote. How does making them have a 2/3rd vote legitimize their actions anymore than allowing them to continue doing what they are doing? If someone is planning on stripping them of all power related to gun control then awesome, I am down. But I don't see that happening, everyone allows them to pass gun control with majority votes...at least someone is trying to regulate the process. If they didn't currently have the power, I would be against the amendment...but considering they already have it I would rather it be harder than easier, at least until the point in time when someone challenges the authority outright.

There is the problem, he is not trying to regulate, he is trying to legitimize the process, you seem to be the only one who doesn't get it.

Because the logic isn't there to come to that conclusion. They can already do it...it has already been legitimized. The best we can do right now is fight any bill that is passed in the supreme court. If the 2/3rd was passed, the best we could do would be fight any bill that was passed in supreme court. As I have said, if someone is in the process of contesting congress ability to pass gun control I am 100% down with that and will support it any way I can....but doing nothing is just as bad if not worse than altering the voting process. Inaction has legitimized the power of congress to pass gun control. What are we doing about it?
