quote Fayetteville police chief accidentally shoots self

Interim Fayetteville Police Chief Katherine Bryant returned to work Friday after she accidentally shot herself in the hand during the Christmas holiday, authorities said.

A spokesman for the city said Bryant was injured when her personal firearm accidentally discharged at home. No one else was hurt.

Officials did not provide more details on the incident.

Bryant, who has risen through the ranks over the past 25 years, took the helm of the police department last summer from Tom Bergamine after he retired.

Bryant will remain on the job until a replacement is named, officials said. Earlier this month, the city announced the top two finalists for the job are Charlotte Deputy Police Chief Harold Medlock and Dallas Deputy Police Chief Malik Aziz. unquote

I am glad interim chief bryant survived her experience with apparently minimal physical injuries but i am sure lasting injury to her reputation...

Typical example of a gun firing itself. Now who says guns do not kill?

but this also demonstrates that just because someone wears a dark suit to work does not make them better then the rest of us

I didn't see anything where she or the writer said that the gun discharged itself.

I think you guys are being a bit hard on her. Saying that the firearm accidentally discharged isn't the same thing as saying that "it just went off" (as we've all heard people claim in other negligent discharges).

Seems like it might. What would happen in NC/Fayetteville if someone who didn't wear a dark suit had a negligent discharge resulting in self-injury? Would they still keep their permit? Charges?

In Connecticut, particularly today but even 6 months ago, it would not have gone so smoothly for a "civilian".

It amazes me how few people realize that many LEO's only use their firearms right before and during their yearly qualifying exam. It also amazes me how few LEO's (even those who practice with their service weapons on a regular basis) know a lot about a variety of firearms.

But since we don't have a shiny badge, we are idiots who don't have the privledge of carrying anywhere and SCARE the sheeple.......
