Late on Friday afternoon the White House released an official statement that Chuck Canterbury, Jr. was nominated to become the next ATF Director.

Unfortunately, Canterbury has a long history of publicly supporting and endorsing anti-gun policies, anti-gun Supreme Court nominees, and anti-gun high ranking government officials.

In his official capacity as President of the National Fraternal Order of Police, Canterbury has:

*** Supported radical anti-gun Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. 1

*** Supported former Attorney General Eric Holder – Obama’s head honcho who ran the deadly Fast and Furious gun running program. 2

*** Supported expanding the federal government’s gun registration schemes. 3

Even more troubling, Canterbury’s FOP is currently lobbying AGAINST Constitutional Carry, even though the vast majority of law enforcement officers support the right to carry. 4,5

Humm NSSF, quote,
Canterbury, currently the President of the Fraternal Order of Police, would bring to the Director’s office 26 years of direct law enforcement experience as well as 16 years’ experience in his current role. This provides Canterbury the perspective of the field agents whom he would lead and experience in collaborating and coalition-building with affinity groups. NSSF is proud of the partnerships and cooperation it has relied upon with the ATF and is confident that will continue.

2011 NRA-ILA quote,
Cox: "You`ve also spent a lot of time reminding members of Congress that FOP members are gun owners who support the Second Amendment. In testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, you said `I take a back seat to no one in my reverence for the Second Amendment.`"
Canterbury: "That`s correct. I meant it then and I mean it now. Our members and your members share many of the same beliefs about guns and crime. Many department chiefs are political, and they go with the anti-gun line, especially in the big cities. But our members in the rank and file know the reality on the streets." Mr Canterbury’s Bio looks innocuous enough ~ http://chuckcanterbury.com/biography/

Perhaps Nightmare, your johnny come lately five year olde gun rights group, founded by a direct mail guru, is being contraire just to keep their name in the limelight?

After reading Canterbury’s Bio and other material, it appears to me that he believes that some classes of persons are entitled to privileges that other classes of persons are not. That's a problem with me. The government is to be subservient to the people and the law.

If confirmed, will he resend the illegal bump-stock decision of the ATF? If he won't then he is not the right guy.

Interesting concept but at least the director is not INTERIM!

BATF&E...dissolve that useless bureaucracy and redirct the currently allocated funds to the construction of the boarder wall on the southern boarder. Every former bureaucrat can then find gainful employment in the private sector. The credentialed and armed bureaucrats can apply to CPB if they wish to continue to carry a GI sidearm.
