Did S&W, in fact, improve upon the original 1911?

Yes along with many other manufactures.

Better materials , better machining the original 1911 had problems if one used anything but ball modern ones feed any bullet design.

Tis a shame since9 that S&W needs a YAHOO newspeek media blurb to promote themselves...REALLY?

Let’s see, did the article even mention how S&W made the 1911 better ~ NO!

[before anybody whines ~ if i needed to ‘read more’ then the OP should’ve cited that article]

Sorry since9, might want to up your firearm article reading standards up to higher speciality media instead of YAHOO nonsense!

Just about all semis have improved the 1911...but not perfected. My GI 1911A1 rattles like a snake but has not failed to feed or fire going on over 30 years now. New barrel every now and then is all about I have done. My swamp gun in a tanker's rig.

Sounds familiar. First .45 ACP I ever shot was an original owned by a friend. It rattled like a bucket of bolts, too, but shot well.
