As you may have seen in http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum5/16157.htmlI am trying to do some research on what the best 9mm SHTF/Plinker handgun is. After seeing a couple of shooters on "Shooting USA" were using the CZ 75 SP-01, I decided to do some research on them. I've got to say, I like what I see.

Basically, I'm looking for any opinions, testimony, or experience on the CZ reliability, accuracy and ergonomics. I've never even held a CZ so I know nothing about them so if you know anything, you know more than me.

I've fired the CZ-75b at my local range.

The weight of the pistol was very good, and allowed for quick follow up shots.

The trigger was decent.

I picked it up, and knock down 6, 6'' steel targets @ 30 feet with 8 shots. (First Time shooting)

I found it to be very accurate, and I say the weight has alot to do with it.

Weight and size are not a consideration since I don't intend on carrying it except to the range. Either way, thanks for letting me know about how heavy it is. Like you said, that'll probably just help with follow up shots. However, I've noticed with other heavy guns, it doesn't take long for the weight to get to me. I'm basically looking for something to shoot all day.

Having shot all three, I'm a much greater fan of either Sig or Glock.

I carry a Glock 26 with me most days, though I've currently got a Sig with me.

I have a CZ 75B and don't find the weight to be a problem. It actually isn't that heavy. I have had experience with this make and model (CZ75) for over 20 years and have never seen one malfunction. Not to say it can't happen, but I have never observed it happen.

A very reliable gun and a pleasure to shoot.

Don't get me wrong here, I didn't say the weight was a problem.

Just that compared to most guns I shoot, it is heavier.

The CZ-75B wieghs 35.2 ounce/2.2 lbs. (Without Ammo). It's a WHOLE lot more solid than Glocks.

I prefer more weight, which is why I went with an XDM instead of a Glock. The XDM is 32 ounces.

I say if your looking for a 9mm SHTF/Plinker handgun, I'd choose the CZ series ALL DAY LONG.

I've heard and read many times, that CZ is like the best kept secret especially for the price.

One thing you may want to consider compared to a Sig, Beretta etc: a CZ-75 is a double-single like a Sig, but unlike a Sig it does not have a decocking lever, so decocking has to be done 1911-style; hold the hammer, pull the trigger and let the hammer down slowly. That introduces the risk of unintended discharge.

That said, the CZ75 is a very comfortable, natural gun to shoot. It carries cocked and locked or hammer-down, so whether you're familiar with a 1911 or a Beretta you can easily adapt to a CZ. They are very accurate, largely because of the ergo and the weight distribution.

357luvr: Your link indicates that you have found the perfect gun. I now have both the CZ 75B and the CZ mod. 2075 (Rami) and after owning some 20+ handguns over the past several years, I find that my CZ's rank in the top 5 that I've ever owned.

Just out of curiousity, what are some of the other guns on that top 5 list? I've owned 10-15 handguns and like I said, I've never even touched a CZ. I prefer top end guns and just thought that they were equivalent to the Browning Hi-Point which I thought was pretty low end. No reason for thinking that other than the looks. They look the same so I thought they were the same basically.

EDIT TO CORRECT: I meant Browning Hi POWER not hi point.

EDIT (again) TO ADD: Just looked up the Hi Power and they seem to be pretty decent guns. A little ugly but so are the CZ's. That's basically what I was trying to say a while ago that they're both a little too ugly for me to normally consider. But since this will either be a gun to save my life or make great groups, neither require it to be a beauty queen.

Since I'm dedicated to the cause ,I went to the Gun Shop at lunch today and laid out the SIG 226 and CZ SP01

CZ WINS !

I could not believe that the SIG 226 trigger was so MUSHY.

Also the CZ SP-01, 9mm holds 18+1, not 19+1.

But the CZ just felt more solid.

The SIG is nice, but not my choice in this battle.

And that's all I have to say about that .....

Which trigger did the P226 have?

am also looking for a good hi-cap, full size 9mm.

Can't decide between the CZ SP-01 and the forthcoming XDM 9, though I haven't seen the price on the latter yet, that could help me decide!

I too would like to know about the Sig's trigger. Some people who have shot my P220 like the pull better than the pull on their custom 1911's.
