Why? Really, why? Doing it that way reinforces the false authority and does nothing to correct the continuing wrong.

I am being uncooperative....against illegal search and seizure. When I pay for the merchandise it is my personal property from that point forward. The security person has absolutely no authority over me unless I am breaking a law and has no business handling anything I own.

My Phase II response is "Are you accusing me of shoplifting? I wish to see your manager now, please."

I have a continuously running recorder to back me up and may or may not take pictures of those involved.

Truly believe the potential liability issue presented by these employees is part (major?) of the reasons that their positions were eliminated locally.

Coming to a store near you soon.

Went grocery shopping at Harris Teeter while waiting for the wife as she got her Starbuck's fix a Albermarle city cop pulled up directly behind me(numerous open spaces). As I sat waiting to be harrassed another city cop car arrived, now I thought for sure the non sense was going to be under way.

To my surprise the officers didn't bother me, I do have items on the exterior of my vehicle to let folks know how I fell about my 2A rights.

Way too many places to post.. no problems anywhere.........

Haven't noticed any gun buster signs at any of the local grocery stores (especailly Kroger).

Saw a NoVA OC'er down here raiding our local bigbox store for ammo.. didn't know he owned a .308 rifle.. :)
It was good seeing him as we where basically neighbors once....

Seen 2-3 others oc'ing (unknown to me) but never in a postion to spark up a converstion.

See above, nothing new.
Glad to hear BBWW's anti personal defense policy is working:

http://www.newsplex.com/home/headlines/Police-Arrest-4-People-for-Cocaine-Possession-199924781.html

Massive brawl
Stabbings
Gun fire
and possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute

Wonder if we are going to see criminals, drugs, knives and fist banned from the premise like guns are, that policy is working out so well.

There was a shooting down here in Lynchburg a week or two back at our "No Guns" TGI Fridays. I suppose they'd say their "No Guns" sign worked, given that the shooting occurred in the parking lot.

Stopped by the local pharmacy and a 8-10yr old girl WHISPERED to her dad that I was carrying a gun. The Dad turned around and struck up a conversation about guns etc.....Very pleasant and now he knows about some VA gun laws and VCDL.
Handed out 15 GSL bumper stickers to O'Jennings Homebuilders.

Heard a pro personal defense spot on the radio regarding Real Wood Amish Furniture.
The wife and I had been meaning to stop by now I had another reason.
As I entered the couple leaving asked about my firearm (G20) and the husband told me they both were carrying Bi-Tone Sig 239's, and showed me his.
The Owner was super nice, showed me his EDC a G17 and confirmed the radio ad (see below), they have real nice furniture.

2nd Amend Sunday's @ Real wood Amish Furniture in Ruckersville.

Come in on any Sunday barring your legal firearm and be entered into a drawing to receive an Oak rocking chair, you also qualify for 15% DISCOUNT ON ITEMS ON THE SHOWROOM FLOOR.

Ihave no dog in the fight

Carrying inside on days other than sunday isn't a problem.

I moved to Charlottesville last week, from Arkansas. We only just passed OC there, and it won't be active until June - I've been OCing here since I crossed the TN/VA state line, with the only exception being when I'm at work.

I've had zero really negative experiences, but was asked to leave Citizen Burger Bar on the Downtown Mall a few minutes ago. I'd asked to sit outside on the patio, and a man came up to me and apologized, but kicked me out. I was as polite as possible, and honestly, almost had to tell him to step aside so I could leave.

I'm sitting in the outdoor seating in front of The Nook right now, and have had no further issues. I work on the Mall, so I tend to spend a lot of time down here.

The only other negative thing I can think of was when I took my daughter to Greenleaf Park on Sunday. I'm fairly sure one woman called the police, as I heard half of her conversation - specifically, she said "But he's carrying a gun!", which picqued my interest. A half hour or so later, a police officer did show up, but it was to attend a kid's birthday party. One of the moms at the park approached him about 10' away from me and asked if he could do anything. His response was "That's his right m'am, he's not doing anything wrong". I tried to engage her in conversation, and told her that I'm sorry if she felt threatened by my presence, and that I was in no way a threat to her or her family. She obviously wasn't happy, but apparently wasn't threatened enough to leave, seeing that she was still there an hour or so later when I left.

Did you ask for a refund?

Welcome aboard Lyndsy - nice first post.

Worth checking out: If you were in the common area of the Downtown Mall, I'm not so sure that an employee of a shop can ask you to leave.

Curious too - do you OC at work, or were you "off the clock" during that time.

Please consider signing up for the free Va-Alerts - they will keep you informed about what is happening with laws and gun rights issues throughout the Commonwealth.

I echo Grapeshot's welcome.

I've noticed a few new OC'ers in the area but they were in Greene Co. not C'Ville, maybe you were one of them.
Unfortunately, I wasn't in a postion to stop and chat with them when I saw them. :(

Shot me a Pm and we can try to grap lunch or something. I have my kids at least 2 of them (4 of them 12y, 9y, 3y, and 13m) with me most dys/hrs/minutes so bringing yours isn't an issue.

While I'm here:

No issues since my last posting.
Got lots of positive conversation at my Dr's office.
Harris teeter

Apple Bee's

Lyndsy- welcome to Virginia. Between this forum and the email alerts from VCDL, you should get off to a great start.

One special request- please go register to vote. We got some house cleanin' to do come November!

That Citizen Burger Bar really chaps my hide. Can you believe what is on their website?!?!

"At Citizen Burger Bar, we believe kicking back with a tasty burger and a beer is one of life’s essential liberties. To secure that sacred right for the people of Charlottesville, ..."

They got a lot of nerve.

Even if it were not in their technical legal authority to ask me to leave, I would have done so - first, because I don't want to put them out, and second, because I don't want to support a business that requires that I be rendered defenseless to be served.

I don't OC at work, though I've considered it. Where I work is a very new non-profit, and we don't even have a handbook yet. At this point, I'd rather just wait until I get my VA CWP, and CC there. Then, when I leave, I'll switch to OC. As for today - I'm salaried, so "on the clock" isn't really a valid distinction. Once I sat down to eat, I did work on things for my employer, but I don't suppose there was any requirement for me to do so.

I've already signed up for VA-Alerts, and paid for my membership to VCDL immediately after my post. Unfortunately my PayPal address reflects my previous home, but I sent an email to your membership officer to get that straightened out. I was a board member for Arkansas Carry when I lived there, and suppose I still am unless I'm told otherwise. I'm more than willing to do my part in the Commonwealth, so just let me know how I can help. I have a variety of skills that might be useful to the group: aside from being a developer, I also make vinyl decals and custom shirts. My wife does hairbows, and I can make custom ribbon for those - a "GUNS SAVE LIVES" hairbow is well within the realm of possibility, and would look awesome on my 4-year-old :)

Certainly will do. My profile here is linked to my Facebook account, so feel free to look me up there as well.

FWIW, I was lightly hassled at the Food Lion on 5th this evening, too. I had to go to the service desk to get a loyalty card, and they have an officer standing there every time I've been in. I acknowledged her, and the conversation went as follows:

LEO: "Do you have a concealed permit for that?"
Me: It's not concealed.
LEO: ... I have to ask.
Me: No, actually, you don't.

Basically, my feeling is that I'm happy to engage in conversation with anyone that's interested. I'm not going to take a lot of time out of my day to explain myself to someone who feels they can intimidate me for a lawful action. I try to be curt but professional in those encounters, and be on my way as soon as possible. I don't appreciate the interrogation, but I'm also not an ass.

The incidents I've spoken about in this thread aside, my experience here has been uniformly positive. I don't blame people for being uncomfortable around something they've been implicitly taught to fear, and no one has acted in a way that's not understandable in that context.

My sincere hope is that my OCing downtown will accomplish two things: reduce the chance that I or my family will be the victim of a crime, and make a "man with a gun" not stick out in people's minds as something bad.

Very well put - your schooling and experience are shinning through

Welcome to C'ville Lyndsy and keep up the OC in the downtown area. I OC in the area all the time, however I'm mostly on the north side of town from Forest Lakes area up into Greene County where I live. I get downtown every now and then and have never had any problems other than the occasional "bug eyes" which are usually from younger folks whom I assume (bad word, I know) are out of state UVA students. Hope to see you around sometime.

Now, who was th oc'er carrying what appeared to be a L frame S&W? I spotted you last week leaving the walmart parking lot.
Spotted another oc'er this afternoon leaving the antique mall. He appeared to be carrying a midsize OD frame Glock.

No issues since my last posting.

Been to Best Buy almost everyother day as they haven't been able to fix my computer issues, still haven't.

Did a few VAGT deals outside BB the past few weeks, no issues even the ones with Charlottesville pd officer's.

Glad those were good deals as the owner of vagt keeps telling traders to ask for a chp prior to selling/trading. No thanks we don't need to do that chit to each other. I'll miss vagt, oh well. Agent19 is no more..
