[h=2]CSGV trying to bully Groupon and LivingSocial[/h]
The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence sent me this email encouraging their members to contact the two groups. I figure we can do the same in a nicer way, thanking them. The links lead directly to the groups and are not filtered through CSGV.

Groupon and LivingSocial Suddenly Trigger-Happy

Dear Alan,

By now, you might have noticed curious ads from two online businesses that offer daily discounts and deals: Groupon and LivingSocial. Specifically, I am talking about offers that seem to go directly against the notion of corporate responsibility by promoting a flippant attitude about carrying firearms in public.

One recent deal, from Groupon, offers discount pricing on a firearms training course that qualifies a person to obtain concealed handgun permits in Virginia, Utah, and Florida: three "Shall-Issue" states with some of the weakest screening/training regimes in the country. The ad even brags, "combined, these permits could allow reciprocity in up to 37 states." This Groupon is not about developing proficiency with firearms, but rather a "quickie" method to carry loaded, hidden handguns in neighborhoods across the country.

Another deal, from LivingSocial, also offers a concealed handgun training course and boasts, "Envious of how fictional characters like James Bond and Lara Croft are cool under fire and able to handle anything that comes up? You can become that way too, in real life, just by going to school—Badass School, that is." Apparently, to LivingSocial, being a "badass" with a gun is just one big, money-making joke. Law enforcement will tell you that carrying a firearm in public is no joking matter, however.

If you find these ads offensive and reckless, please contact Groupon and LivingSocial today to register your disapproval using the following email forms:

1) Contact Groupon https://www.groupon.com/support
2) Contact LivingSocial http://help.livingsocial.com/contact_us

We understand that Groupon and LivingSocial are in the business of making money, but in America, families and communities are devastated by gun violence every single day. Profiting by encouraging poorly-trained "James Bonds" to walk our streets with loaded handguns is a terrible idea that we need not tolerate.

Best regards,
Josh Horwitz

Hey! That's our very own ProShooter. He was talking about it at the monthly dinner two dinners ago (September).

One of the companies turned him down - the other made a tidy profit. And yes, he did show receipts to the outfit that had turned him down.

As for CSGV, look at their latest tax filing http://armsandthelaw.com/archives/2012/10/it_must_suck_to_1.php - thanks to David Hardy at "Of Arms and the Law" http://armsandthelaw.com/ . For those, like me, whose eyes glaze over at stuff like that - they are losing even more money than last time. David does a nice breakdown of their spiral and speculates on how much/many staff they might be able to afford.

stay safe.

Look at the guy's last name ... you did not even have to read the drivel ...

Seriously? A thinly veiled anti-semitic slur? Rule (9) HATE IS NOT WELCOME HERE: So are you of the opinion that all Jews support gun control?

I don't suppose you have ever heard of this group.

Or perhaps I misread what you were saying? Please explain.

I too am concerned that you are referring to the last name being one typically Jewish. Is that what you are saying? If so, that is despicable and a rules violation.

If not, my apologies for jumping to a conclusion, and I am curious as to what else you could possibly have meant.

Once again, the anti's show that they have no clue & are just fine with spreading lies.
I don't know about VA, but both FL & UT require fingerprints.
Both do background checks.
UT does a background check every day - 50 states + federal.
Both require training, though FL will take hunter's safety from when you were 12.
UT has some pretty strict rules about disqulification, things that won't DQ you from other states.

ETA: Just sent a message to both companies via the links in post #1.
Short, basic, pointed.
I'm pleased to see that Groupon does not discriminate against people who offer (or want to receive) firearms safety training. Please don't let the rantings of a few scared people change your policy.

I was just looking at my Groupons this morning and was happy to see the CCW class and the shooting range ad. I don't need a CCW though and the range was too far away. :(

ETA:

I sent this to Groupon. I don't use LivingSocial.

I hear that The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence is requesting their members to email you and that is a shame.

I smiled when I saw your Ad for Ted's Shooting Range in Queen Creek and the Armed Personal Defense – Phoenix concealed handgun class. I am happy that Groupon offers a wide variety of deals on different services and products.

Please don't bow down to knee-jerk organizations.

Thank you.
