I haven’t visited the site for a while, so never mind if this subject has already been covered.

If you are contemplating making a change to your WDL (renewal, addition, etc.), you might find this info useful: Late in 2018, the WA DOL started changing WDL ID numbers from the system of using letters of the licensees last name and a number derived by subtracting their birth year from 100 and then adding some other letters/numbers to a “so called” more secure numbering system. Last week I had a “corrective lenses” restriction removed from my WDL and my WDL number was changed to the new numbering system. Problem being that my WA CPL has my previous WDL number on it. Wondering what the consequences of that would be if I had to provide my license to law enforcement, I called the Clark County Sheriff’s office. I was told that I had two options: Pay them $10.00 for a new CPL with the new WDL number or just wait until I renewed my CPL. It was explained to me that the old and new WDL numbers were cross referenced in “the system” and that it wouldn’t present a problem for me. Forever the skeptic, I paid the $10.00 and got the updated CPL. I also have a Oregon CHL but thankfully, they don’t include such numbers on the license.

So citizenjohn, where, within the WA RCWs or WA Admin codes, did you obtain this 2018 numbering scheme from ?

further, depending on renewal due date of your CPL, skepticism perceptions notwithstanding, does it truly matter if you're open carrying, despite mandatory vehicle restrictions, in the evergreen state which numbering scheme is in place?

ps: iaw
RCW 9.41.070
Concealed pistol license—Application—Fee—Renewal. (Effective until July 1, 2021.)

(6) The nonrefundable fee for the renewal of such license shall be thirty-two dollars

(9)(a) A licensee may renew a license if the licensee applies for renewal within ninety days before or after the expiration date of the license. A license so renewed shall take effect on the expiration date of the prior license. A licensee renewing after the expiration date of the license must pay a late renewal penalty of ten dollars in addition to the renewal fee specified in subsection (6) of this section.

there is nothing in RCW cpl guidance for a $10 payment !

The $10.00 is a "replacement" fee, which applies in my example. My "cite" is page 2 of 2 on the current WA DOL Concealed Pistol Licence application form.
As far as the old numbering scheme goes, I deduced it from personal observation over a span of 40+ years and when I talked to a rep at the Olympia headquarters of the DOL concerning this matter. IE, If your name is Eli J. Smiths and you were born in 1951, your number would be SMITHEJ49 with a couple of other number/letter add-ons.
But ... The takeaway from my story is just a heads up for anybody that might encounter this wrinkle. Just pointing out an unexpected encounter.

well, citizenjohn, i can see where your personal deduction as explained by hearsay & unsubstantiated rhetoric coupled "with a couple of other number/letter add-ons" is certainly an inviolable and viable explaination!

as for cpl replacement fee guidance...websites are especially unreliable but truth be told, according to wa rcw 9.41.070(7) the fee is for lost or damaged cpls only...not for "cuz" rational per se.

further, since you profess this earthshaking event re numbering of citizen's wa cpl began in 2018, again w/absolutely no reference to a cite, surely some WA citizen holding a cpl would have been significantly been affected and mentioned it on WA's firearm's or forum sometime over the last two plus years.

finally and most significantly IMHO...my WA CPL's number doesn't come close to your whimsical numbering scheme!

Solus,
Are you daft man?? Really?

No one said anything about a re-numbering system to the CPL as you discuss above. The renumbering system in question, and clearly outlined above, was referring to the WA DOL's re-numbering of our Drivers Licenses which began in 2018. Which you would certainly know about since you live here🤣👍

As you well know, our drivers license # is ON our CPL. Since WA State changed their license numbering system in 2018, which was well publicized, ( I will post cites below ) my CPL will still have my OLD DOL number on it for 2 years before I renew it. The OP was merely asking if that would pose a problem if he had to present both to a law enforcement officer. It seems like a valid question, and he got a valid answer. Either keep the current CPL, or renew it. I don't take any issue with your comments about fee structures. Personally, I will just keep my CPL until it expires as I don't like going to the Courthouse any more than I need to LOL!

But you need to lighten up on your comments, when you are way off base in referring to CPL changes in 2018, when that was NOT the subject here. How can you find cites to changing the CPL, when in fact the topic was the well publicized changing of our Drivers License numbering system?
I would expect my new drivers license number to eventually show up on my WA CPL eh?

No, No...no need to thank me. I do this as a public service🤣🤣🤣👍😁

Ya know olgutshotwilly, let's start at the bottom of your post shall we....

quote:
An image shared on Facebook claims that President George Washington once said, “Government is not reason; it is not eloquence; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”

There is no record of Washington ever making this statement.

This quote has appeared in print for more than a century, with etymologist Barry Popik tracing its first known appearance to 1902, attributed to none other than the country’s first president, who died in 1799.

The original version of the quote is longer, offering this warning about government: “Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.”

The expression has been investigated by a number of researchers, none of whom could locate it anywhere in Washington’s writings. His estate at Mount Vernon includes the quote in its list of “spurious quotations.” unquote [first cite below]

1. https://checkyourfact.com/2019/06/2...uence-force-dangerous-servant-fearful-master/

2. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-probably-not-a-real-george-washington-quote/

3. https://quoteinvestigator.com/2015/05/26/fire-servant/

4. to appease dougie: http://volokh.com/2010/04/14/government-is-not-reason-it-is-not-eloquence-it-is-force/

now to your critical commentary regarding the OP's thread...
1. where in RCWs does it cover a numbering scheme for citizen's privilege carry permit or state it is connected to the citizen's driving permit?
2. OP's initial posting stated:
Problem being that my WA CPL has my previous WDL number on it. Wondering what the consequences of that would be if I had to provide my license to law enforcement, I called the Clark County Sheriff’s office. I was told that I had two options: Pay them $10.00 for a new CPL with the new WDL number or just wait until I renewed my CPL. It was explained to me that the old and new WDL numbers were cross referenced in “the system” and that it wouldn’t present a problem for me.
3. Clark SO lied to the OP regarding the 10$ which as i cited was the fee for lost privilege permits not 'on the whim 'i wanta change the number! instead of telling the OP the numbering scheme is magically tied in the WA state LE system database and not to worry about it!
4. OP then went on a whimsical & unsubstantiated rant of his understanding, after 40 years, how the numbering scheme morphed to what it is today.
5. finally, I just pointed out a fact my WA privilege card numbering scheme didn't come close to his whimsical/unsubstantiated perceptions reflected on my DL.

so for your posted statement towards me, " But you need to lighten up on your comments, when you are way off base in referring to CPL changes in 2018, when that was NOT the subject here."

Since WA privilege's cards have, from the beginning, been tied to WA citizen's DL numbering schema, then the change in 2018 did in fact affect WA Citizen's privilege card numbering schema!

now to quote your last sentence of your post.. "No, No...no need to thank me. I do this as a public service"

Solus,
Thank you for your dissection of the supposed quote from Washington! I actually know these facts, but left it because I like the quote! So I chose to leave it distorted, to honor Mark Twain🤣 I suppose to be accurate I should leave off the Washington attribution😁👍. However, I may well just add the word "apocryphal" to it. I enjoyed that reference to it immensely in your last link!

As I stated above, I have no issue whatsoever with your comments regarding Clark County and the fee structure. I agree with you on that one, which we both know.

I see your logic in stating how in fact the change in DOL numbering did pertain to our CPL. I could not find the RCW or WAC or anything regarding the connection to the DOL number being connected to the CPL. I was hoping you might have found the connection, as you are superb at winnowing out some of that kind of link. I do believe the missing cite needed regarding the new numbering system, was the inclusion of the Real ID Legislation.

The fact that you chose to critique me from the bottom of my post to the top, I found humorous. Thank you! It's always fun conversing with you.😁
And I live by your quote: Remember always, do not judge someone because they sin differently than you do! In fact, I have that posted on one of my blogs somewhere👍

Best,
Bill

I just got my Washington State Driver License renewed & had the number changed from the old numbering style to the new one. I went in person, to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office & asked the same question about if new Driver License has any effect on CPL. I was told that the old number & new number are linked together & that if wanted to update the license number on the physical license that would have to pay the $10 replacement fee. I just renewed my CPL back in October.

On a side note, Washington State currently offers both a 6 year renewal & 8 year renewal option for driver license.
