Just thought I'd look at what they may have put up and sure enough this is what's there:

"Weapons
NOTICE: The Richmond Coliseum's policy against bringing weapons into the building or arena shall not otherwise prohibit the lawful carrying of a handgun or other firearms or the lawful carrying of a concealed handgun with a valid permit issued pursuant to Virginia Code Section 18.2-308. The Richmond Coliseum reserves the right to search any person (including any belongings) prior to entry and while on the Coliseum's premises and to temporarily stop any person carrying a concealed handgun for the purpose of allowing a law-enforcement officer to examine the person's concealed handgun permit and necessary photo ID. We appreciate your cooperation as we try to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for our employees, guests and performers"

Signage was not changed at the Coliseum as of last Sat. - they could have taped over the illegal "No Guns" part but did not.

Also I question the legality of searching my person - can this be made a condition of entry? As I see it, this is not likely anyway as I normally OC and would not expect them to look further - not sure how they would propose to handle that because I am not going to permit any "hands-on" and particularly not near my gun or mags.

Still I see some acknowledgment of lawful carry being legal.

Wonder whether all future users of the Coliseum will have to pay an additional "special fee" now that legal guns will be allowed - RPV was reported to have been required to shell out $32-35,000 additionally for the "privilege." IMO - a refund is due the RPV.

I am looking forward to seeing how this all goes over for Glenn Beck, this Saturday. It looks like I will be OCing, rather than CCing.
What time does the Glenn Beck event begin?

I'm confused by their verbage. OC is lawful carrying, yet weapons aren't allowed. So, are they backing down and saying OC is OK...or just CC? If OC is OK, then what is the purpose of their language against weapons?

How can they enforce a search of your person/effects without RAS? It's a government owned facility. Government is prohibited from doing that sort of thing.

Also, how would they know if you have a concealed firearm? I thought the purpose of it being concealed was that other people would not know you had it... you know, concealed as in not visible.

Not everyone knows how to conceal properly.

I see sloppy CC almost daily.
A few times I've asked the carrier why they just don'tOC as everyone already knows they are carrying.

I just find it hard to believe that people can't conceal properly. I mean, whatever happened to taking pride in your works and efforts?

Heck, I have a SERPA OWB holster I use when OCing. I can still CC that (with my full size 9mm no less). Sure it's a little more obvious than my normal conceal firearm but still, no one noticed (or if they did, nothing was said). Security & police that I walked by certainly never noticed.

But my point still stands. How would the Colisseum know if you were CC if you were carrying CC? Do they wand you or put you through a metal detector as a requirement to entry?

As it seems they will insist on searching everyone's belongings the most likely case would be a woman carrying concealed in her purse.

I think they could search your baggage for food, drinks, and the other things on the prohibited list. Metal detectors wouldn't show them so they would be useless.

A body search or pat down would be out of bounds.

...shall not otherwise prohibit the lawful carrying of a handgun or other firearms or the lawful carrying of a concealed handgun with a valid permit...

I see this as allowing OC. It allows the lawful carrying of a handgun or other firearms, and OC is lawful; likewise, it allows the lawful carrying of a handgun with a CHP, which is to say that other firearms like a rifle would not be covered.

That said, the huge rights violation of unwarranted searches needs to be removed post haste! I'd always give my permit over to a LEO for compliance with the law, but random searches are clearly way too much.

The key is their ABC designation - they are designated as a "Food Concession".

CC is only prohibited in "restaurants" and "clubs".

Sure seems that way to me but I bet you'd receive loooots of attention.
The show would probably be over before you were free to move without escort and the resultant publicity would harm more than help.

If I remember correctly no mags over 20 rds unless you have a CHP in designated cities which includes Richmond.

Tess from NOVA did not comply with their bag search at the RPV convention and was not denied entry. I too am of the opinion that a city owned facility searching my possessions without RAS is extra-legal.

Knives which many/most of us carry clipped to our pocket so as not to be concealed are still disallowed as would be pepper spray, batons, tasers et al. Only legally carried guns have been okayed. Just something to think about.
