Contacted Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy

I was working in Dublin yesterday at the big shopping center off Hwy 580 (I think it's called Dublin Crossroads?) and noticed an Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy walking around.

I stopped him and asked if he had a minute for a question. As I was working and my company has a "no weapons" policy my firearm was locked up in my vehicle.

I asked him if there were any directives or memos from his office regarding Open Carry. He said he was not aware of any, but admitted they are flooded with a lot of memos and he could have missed it if there was one.

He then asked if I was an Open Carry "Advocate" . I answered I guess so, as I regularly OC as a means of self defense and getting a CCW is nearly impossible in my county. I then asked him what his thoughts were on OC.

He then spoke of the usual "officer safety" concern, and said you have to be smart about it. (Open Carrying)

Then he started to preach the "what if a bad guy takes your firearm away from you" crap. Oh jeez. I told him I have a high retention holster and am very aware of my surroundings. He then asked what kind of training I had, implying he was far superior to me, and then unloaded the big doozy. He told me inmates "train" in prison disarming people carrying holstered firearms. I'd like to know who is supplying and allowing said inmates to possess holsters and guns in prison?? What a joke.

Unfortunately my voice recorder was with my gun. I wish I could recount his statements word for word.

I then asked him to try and remember me, as I normally work in Dublin once a week and always arm myself before going to Fuddrucker's, Applebee's, or any of the other food establishments there when I go to lunch.

I have yet to see any news stories with the headline "Open Carry advocate disarmed by violent felon" . And I'm pretty sure it would be front page news with all the exposure lately. I see a very slim possibility of this even being attempted, unless you're walking through a gang infested, gang controlled part of a very bad city.

That was exactly my thought, what's keeping violent felons from taking his weapon, does he have some kind of special powers that we don't have to help prevent this?

i once had a criminal take my gun from me.

3 of them aproached me, one with this gun out. they were wearing all blue. one of them took my gun and looked at it, then put it back and asked me to remove my wallet and show him my ID, I think he was trying to find out of I was on their turf. When I stood up to thebullies in blue and said no, they took my gun again, then searched my pockets to see ifI had anything else of value to them. They then used their two way radio to reference my guns serial number to their sophisticated data base to find out who I was and where I lived. They told me that its dangerous for me to carry my gun because one of their new members might shoot me.
