Im learning fast that there is a LOT of wrong information being spewed

I was talking with a guy today and he says to me "dont get your CCW"

he then explains to me that if you get pulled and are a ccw holder they can search you and your car
without a warrant and that having the ccw gives them probable cause

this just doesnt sound right that when you jump their hoops you now all of a sudden dont have any 4th amendment rights
to be secure in your person and effects from unreasonable searches

I had an officer try to tell me that I could only conceal on my person with the permit. The pistol was in a bag behind my seat. When I asked about women and their purses he decided to change the subject.

Absolute, unadulterated garbage. Kind of like the folks that say you cannot OC once you have your CCP. Yeah, show me where I signed my constitutional rights away and we'll talk.

That said, here is a tidbit for you. If you are the owner of the car, the cops are generally able to find out if you have a CCP by running the tag. That's if they want to do a little extra clicking on the in car computer. But then again, that info is only for the owner of the car. Run the tag and get your personal info, check that info and it's usually flagged for CCP.

But even then I have never had an issue with LE and CC or OC. Even during an accident, a speeding ticket, and those annoying DUI checks. And I've talked to a few veteran cops that train the new guys not to bother the permit holders. Not to ask for the gun unless there is a specific reason to do so. A lot of them do understand the vast majority of us are good people and the safest place for a gun is in the holster.

The answer to "Can I search your car?" is always "No." If they want in, they better have the paper to do it or have me in cuffs for something else.

Excellent information! As soon as he began to "enlighten me" flags were going up as it did not sound correct

You have the same rights with a permit as you do without, that does not change. What changes is the government has more information on you, not just state but national. The information is fed into NCIC. Also keep in mind that concealed carry in NC is not a right, it is a privilege, and it has no affect on your right to open carry. I am open carry only, so I don't bother with a permit, hopefully that does not change. NRA and other organizations would like it to change because they make money from permits. I think it stinks that people from some states must pay and ask permission to open carry.

well i guess that those of us in western nc are not as brigth or educated as the rest of you here i guess you do not want or require our support. i have listened to your attacks on NCGR and while i do support OC as well as CC i will no longer support anything that is on this site. all of the no firearm signs are a direct result of your actions. not the cc's but the oc's ,

goodbye

wow...just wow & truly amazing!!

if you had done some research on this site you would have seen there is a number of posts regarding the amount of mis-information - can't OC when you have your permit; to J-Sin's initial post; etc. - consistently being put out by those in the western part of the state!!

'my attacks on the NCGR (sic) GRNC'...you perceived someone asking questions about an organization and then having the organization's president threaten legal action, other GRNC members berating myself and other OC forum members names, as my attack? :banghead:

Finally, you truly believe the the proliferation of firearms signs on businesses and other establishments within NC are a direct result of my actions...:shocker:

I can not speak for the whole membership but your future insights on whatever subject you wish to contribute to on this forum will be missed and I personally wish you well on your future endeavors and quests...

I don't consider anything east of I-77 as being in the western part of the state. As ncwabbit pointed out though, it seems that stupid pronouncements about OC/CC abound there. Now, granted wabbits' style is somewhat irritating, but he is often both helpful and correct.

With your attitude that those who OC are the root cause of the gunbuster signs, what are you doing to correct that?
I am a life member of GRNC and support them with time and money. Still, I do not agree with everything they do, or their approach. In fact, I think some of the anti-OC signs are a result of those who push CC as a way of carrying that does not offend sensitive eyes.

All said and done however, if ncwabbit's posts can run you off, then any help or support you may give to others is lost. 'Bye.:(

There simply are not enough OC'rs to effect signage or law. And if someone wants to post it just lets me know I should shop elsewhere.
