Currently in CA you cannot carry a loaded firearm in most all circumstances, which leaves most of us with Unloaded Open Carry. One of the State Assembly members here has been wanting to make it illegal even to possess an unloaded firearm as well.

It looks like they finally codified the new offense.

AB 1934 is loaded with a bunch of new exemptions to other PCs and the codification of § 12037:

12037. (a) A person is guilty of openly carrying an unloaded handgun when that person carries an exposed and unloaded handgun outside a vehicle on his or her person while in any public place or on any public street in an incorporated city or in any public place or on any public street in a prohibited area of an unincorporated territory.

There's more revisions in the bill.

I realized it was time to get out of CA about6 years ago when some of my daughter's classmates were machinegunned about a mile from our home for cutting a guy off on the 210.

Nah that can't be machine guns are illegal there.

That truly is sad though.

There is a very large "outlaw" culture in California and it is growing the more laws stupid government makes increases the numbers in culture and leaving those who are productive members of society without the means to protect themselves. In many respects I feel that is what gov. like, that way they can "provide" us with protection.

Yup, it's totally absurd.

Our system was originally designed to recognize that "law-abiding citizen" and "criminal" are not black-and-white distinctions in every case.

It was designed to recognize that good people may occasionally have motivation to do bad things, and to incentivize mutually nonaggressive action regardless of these motivations.

Today, with a billion laws and counting, every time someone smokes a joint, they have decided it is worthwhile to break the law.

Our system has become so perverted, that it takes folks who may be essentially selfish but not evil, and instead of incentivizing them towards social behavior it encourages them to adopt an outlaw lifestyle of criminality!

This is strong evidence that excessive laws not only manufacture crime, they create real criminals as well.

The Gun Owners of California website has some good info on it.

Whether you live in California or not, the impact of this bill will be hugely negative throughout the country, so please write Governor Schwarzeneggar and let him know, politely, what you think ofMs. Saldana's mindlessbill.

I did:

Dear Governor Schwarzeneggar:

I wrote the following letter to Ms. Saldana. Please review it thoroughly, and when AB 1934 crosses your desk, please veto it for the worthless piece of legislation it is.

Thanks!

Sincerely,

Since 9

Encl:

Dear Ms. Saldana:

I have held many roles throughout my life: camp counselor, lifeguard/aquatics manager, accountant, engineer, programmer, Sunday school teacher, Bible study leader, and U.S. Air Force Officer. No role have I taken more seriously, though, than my role as the Father of my son, except one: Citizen of the United States of America.

We, The People of the United States of America, are endowed by our Constitution with many rights and responsibilities. One of those is both a right and a responsibility - protecting one's self and family from harm. This right is Constitutionally secured by the 2nd Amendment, a fact recognized by the Surpreme Court of the United States of America on several occasions, most recently last year.

Your bill, AB 1934, seeks to infringe upon our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms for the protection of self, family/others, and property.

The lawful open carry of a properly-holstered firearm is done for the purpose of defense. It is the most efficient tool available when it comes to self-defense or the defense of property or others. Because the lawful carry of firearms is common here in Colorado, people do not freak out when they see a man or woman wearing a properly-holstered firearm. Mothers do not grab their babies, fathers don't scurry their kids out of the store, no one calls the cops to report a MWAG.

It's NORMAL. The reason it's no longer normal in California is because those who open carry in your state are unlawfully harrassed by the police.

I thank God I live in a state where our right to keep and bear arms is not only respected, but where I can lawfully carry my firearm both open and concealed in the manner which is most effective for its purpose of self-defence: Loaded. I thank God this is a "shall-issue" state when it comes to concealed weapons permits so should someone choose to carry concealed, they can actually obtain a permit to do so, unlike corrupt California where only the privaleged and well-connected are issued permits. I thank God I can lawfully defend myself and my family here in Colorado from crimes, including violent ones, committed against my person, rather than having my widow or orphaned son have to explain what happened to the police after the crime has occurred.

I may no longer live in California, but my son still does, and when I visit him, I would very much appreciate it if my right to keep and bear arms were respected so that I might lawfully protect myself and him against those who would unlawfully seek to deprive either of us of life, limb, or property.

If it's not too much trouble, Ms. Zaldana, would you please drop your bill? It solves nothing but making the very few who do freak out feel a little better, while allowing criminals to declare open season on the rest of the general populace. I would appreciate it very much if you would strike this ridiculously shortsighted bill from the docket and replace it with something more along the lines of Arizona's Constitutional Carry law.

Now that's a bill that makes sense! Yours, however, makes sense only to the criminals. In fact, I think I heard them cheering all the way over here.

Sincerely...
