Hello, I just read a post about a student that was going to wear an empty holster to school in order to raise awareness to the situations as to what can happen on school campuses.
I Just wanted to let you know about the Bullet Blocker backpacks, backpack panels and gear that are made for anyone looking for a proactive safety device- http://safety.bulletblocker.com if you want to see them. thanks

I find this claim highly dubious, as a "proactive safety device" is something that disables an attacker, in this instance.

I suppose I could throw the bag at him.

Hello
This is just another safety tool to help in a bad situation. Having a proven and tested safety tool seems like a good idea to me

Proactive: 2. (of a policy or person or action) controlling a situation by causing something to happen rather than waiting to respond to it after it happens

Wearing a special backpack hardly counts as proactive.

Another feel-good product that provides an illusion of safety rather than actually making a difference.

I guess it is good for rich, paranoid parents to get for their kids though.

The best proactive safety device is the 'Villain Ventilator'...Available in various sizes. Simple 'point and click' interface system. No blocking required. :)

I suspect the empty holster was morein protest over the prohibitions of personal Villain Ventilators by students on campus. :(

While I like the idea of the "bullet blocker" (which appears to be a line of bulletproof vests, backpacks and other items a student might wear or carry) as an extra line of defense, nothing beats being able to fight fire with fire. LEOs wear bulletproof vests too, and I'm sure the vests save a lot of lives, but there's a reason they still carry their guns.

The bulletproof notebook is especially interesting. This is something you hold in your hands, and it's supposed to stop bullets. Let's keep in mind that LEOs often end up with bruised or broken ribs when they get shot with a vest on. Better than being killed, but still, I'm sure it doesn't feel too good. Could you imagine holding the bulletproof notebook in your hands while someone's shooting at you? OUCH! It might block the first shot, maybe even the next, but at some point you'll drop the notebook and it doesn't do you much good on the ground if the BG is still shooting at you.

Not to mention the fact that some states have laws restricting the use of body armor. I know here in California, nobody who has been convicted of a violent felony (with certain exceptions) can legally own body armor. I'm sure other states have different laws, and this probably isn't the only one in California covering body armor either (it was just the first one I could find).

From http://tinyurl.com/66t5lw
Code:
12370. (a) Any person who has been convicted of a violent felony,
as defined in subdivision (c) of Section 667.5, under the laws of the
United States, the State of California, or any other state,
government, or country, who purchases, owns, or possesses body armor,
as defined by Section 942 of Title 11 of the California Code of
Regulations, except as authorized under subdivision (b), is guilty of
a felony, punishable by imprisonment in a state prison for 16
months, or two or three years.

This is an obviously commercial thread. Check out mike45acp other postings. See any pattern?

Body armor on campus: 12 months in prison, $1,000 fine.
http://www.legis.state.la.us/lss/lss.asp?doc=508459

Gun on campus: 5 years at hard labor.

:banghead:

Edited to list correct penalty. Hard labor is Louisiana's implicit definition of a felony, instead of a year plus. In most jurisdictions a crime is a felony if it is explicitly stated to be so in the statute or is punishable by over a year in prison, but in Louisiana its a felony if explicitly stated to be so or is punishable by any duration at hard labor.

The next thing you know they'll outlaw condoms in brothels. Always funny that the places where people may actually secure some sort of advantage to using certain things are usually the places where the law says they can't use them at all.

Necroed.

C. The provisions of this Section shall not apply to:

...

(3) A person who has notified the school principal or chancellor in writing at least twenty-four hours prior to wearing body armor.

(4) The wearing or possessing of body armor occurring within one thousand feet of school property and entirely on private property, or entirely within a private residence, or in accordance with a concealed handgun permit issued pursuant to R.S. 40:1379.1.

(5) Any constitutionally protected activity which cannot be regulated by the state, such as body armor contained entirely within a motor vehicle.

...

(7) A student enrolled or participating in an activity requiring the use of body armor.

Anyways, you could still possibly get away with wearing the body armor.

You could let the school know in writing. You could also have a concealed handgun permit. Also you could use #5 and claim you were engaging in a constitutionally protected activity (self-preservation and being secure in your person and effects). You could also use #7 and say you were participating in an activity requiring the use of body armor, that would be wearing body armor. You can't exactly participate in wearing body armor if you're not wearing it.

In what logical sense would anyone prohibit someone elsefrom wearing a protective garment. Is the school football team prohibited from wearing pads, cups & helmets during play? How about the soccer team, are they not allowed to wear shin-guards. What about the fencing team? No face guards or breast plates for them either?

Seriously, what sick twisted **** would try to limit a person ability to protect himself from severe injury or death? First they disarm you, now they prohibit you from using any type of passive defense against being shot? Lets all lead the lambs to slaughter and make sure they canoot fight back. there are some Sick twisted fucks in the world, and they always get to make the rules that everyone else is supposed to abide by.
