I will be traveling across the border from PA to NY state for a sporting clays event near the Hancock NY area.

What do I need to do to be legal to bring it into NY state ?

Thanks in advance

You should be ok if you have it in your trunk in a case and unloaded. Just don't bring any pistols into NY state. For more information try this site.

No trunk unfortunatly, just a pickup truck with no cap so they will have to be in my back seat . . .

Be sure the case the shotgun in is locked. Have a separate locked case for ammunition. If possible put the locked gun case behind the rear passenger seats.

if your glove box locks that can also count as a seperate compartment as long as it remains locked

this thread is about a shotgun lol.
but I would be very careful promoting your above suggestion, as it is only true in a select few states. many state laws actually specify that the glovebox and/or center console does NOT legally apply as a seperate locked container. other states don't mention the glovebox or center console specifically, but do say that the seperate locked container can not be within arm's reach of the driver, and sometimes passengers too
