Puerto Rico is US territory. They have US citizenship. It is NOT "foreign."

I make no other claims as to what this has to do with anything else.

Company moving manufacturing to Puerto Rico.

Dissapointing, and I let them know.

Email: cs@blackhawk.com

Don't think it is accurate to say they will be foreign made. Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States. It is not an independent, sovereign nation.

I do have some disappointment with Blackhawk though. Up until about 2 years ago they demonstrated good PR and would respond to problems/suggestions from "civilian" customers well - now not so much. It seems to me that they have turned their backs on all but the military and law enforcement.

PR has some very favorable tax laws in regard to having operations there. It is also interesting the PR has never adopted the UCC - the Uniform Commercial Code - underlying trade laws that govern commerce in US. As such from a business perspective it is like doing business in a Caribbean spanish speaking country - you typically have to hire PR attorneys and accountants - extra cost of doing business on their little island.

Would think the Obamacare is the law in US Territory too - like US Samoa, District of Columbia, USVI, Guam.

From Daily Kos

The blue states are the ones that are running their own exchanges; the rest are all run by the Federal site (Healthcare.gov), although it looks like 2 states (Idaho and New Mexico) will be moving to their own next year, and Utah has it's own site for business signups only. Interestingly, it turns out that the territories (American Samoa, Puerto Rico, etc.) aren't covered by the ACA at all.

yeah, we happened to grant puerto rico citizenship, just in time for the ww1 draft because we're that nice.

I think we should cut them loose myself, they just suck federal tax money without being subject to most federal taxes.

meh.

I don't care where they're made. If they are the best value for the money, I will buy them. Congrats to PR for having an environment more friendly to the exercise of free enterprise than BH's other options.

Looks like Obamacontrol may have had an impact in the decision.

I know, in order to compete with the third world we should make ourselves a third world country.

PR's "business friendly climate" involves sucking federal tax dollars through all kinds of programs without having to pay for them. this is like if you have a landlord who charges you 500 dollars a month, and you move to another landlord that charges 300 dollars a month, except the 300 dollar a month landlord gets kickbacks from the government and uses his welfare money to offset his costs, there is nothing free market about moving to PR.

I will never buy a blackhawk product again, I will stick with bladetech, their products are made here in Washington....

Their holsters already would stress and break (rendering them unfit for their intended use) when they were made in the US. I can't see any reason to care where they are made.

Any product will stress and break over time, just some materials are less sound and forgiving than others. Personally I prefer leather, but I have owned corduroy/ballistic nylon, and plastic holsters. When it comes down to it for a large police agency blackhawk holsters are inexpensive compared to leather duty holsters.

I am not surprised at Blackhawks move, I expect more small business that now have to provide expensive health insurance to move to PR. Good for PR, bad for the states. In the long run Barry Boy will get to claim he reduced unemployment in PR.

It's alot more hype then reality, the vast majority of american employers already provided obamacare compliant plans for their employees.

the business side will not lose out on much, the consumer at the end is who's going to lose out big.

I'm sure we had most of this discussion already (or maybe it was another individual?), but I've said before the same thing I'll say now:

Yes, but leather will show its age and become "worn out" long before it fails catastrophically.

And as far as kydex goes, I have a Safariland holster. I hate the thing because it's massive, but it also flexes so very, very little (compared to a Serpa) that the fatigue rate is probably measurable in decades, as opposed to months with the Serpa. Blackhawk is pretty much Uncle Mike's quality: for range day only.

I like my BlackHawk holster but it is going to break I realize this and am planning to buy a new one and replace it before it reaches that point.

personally, even as preference I don't like the Serpa design that much, I don't think it's strong enough to provide good retention especially the paddle models. I see alot of Seattle cops now using the Serpa, so maybe there's something to it, but I own one, and I don't like it at all.

all of blackhawks other products are simply copies of existing designs.

so in reality, my boycott threat to blackhawk isn't something they'd worry about since I only own one and I almost never use it.

PR passed a resolution last year to officially request to become a state. Congress has to vote to admit them.

They have done that every year since 1949. And Congress has ignored it every year since 1950.

IMO they would be better off becoming a separate nation.

stay safe.

It works good for me and we've tested the retention of it , I like it especially since I almost exclusively OC .

I do recognize the limits and wear it can take though and anyone owning one that uses it for daily carry should IMHO be aware of that too.
