“This is absurd, if this goes through you could have up to four people fully armed in a car without having any prior knowledge of that ahead of time during a traffic stop,” Morgan County Sheriff Anna Franklin told WHNT News 19 Wednesday afternoon.
Does anyone notice the logic fail in this statement?

Hit this survey question regarding Alabama bill to allow vehicle gun without a permit.

"Yes, you should be able to carry a loaded pistol in a car without a permit."

http://whnt.com/2014/03/05/bill-allowing-loaded-guns-in-vehicles-without-permit-gains-support

UPDATE: This bill actually died already, yes?

I wonder if patron would consider next year introducing a bill only to allow open carry in vehicles without a permit?

Apparently the constitution doesn't apply when you get in your vehicle. If your vehicle is considered conceal carry by the law then if this law is passed why then would it be illegal to carry concealed without a permit period? There actually is no enumeration of power to the legislature to regulate firearms in the Alabama constitution or put restrictions on who can and can't own a firearm. I shouldn't need a permit to exercise my constitutional right already given to me.

Anna Franklin is an idiot. I'm more worried about an off-duty deputy "accidentally" shooting me than I am about them being concerned about who's armed and whose not in a car they pull over. I don't really care about how law enforcement feels about that. The constitution doesn't say if law enforcement is uncomfortable with it then it should not pass. It says "That every citizen has a right to bear arms in defense of himself and the state." No if and or but. I just prefer my rights to not be trampled on. BTW no LEO has the duty to protect and individual from a criminal. I'm uncomfortable about having to wait 4 weeks to be able to properly and constitutionally defend myself.

If you want a lot of fun, research the history of that law(13A-11-73). It was vacated for a time, but reinstated during the Montgomery Bus Boycott. As is the case with many of our infringing laws, it was racially motivated and aimed at only one segment of the population.

In 1956, it was virtually impossible for a black person to get a pistol permit in Alabama and, indeed, much of the Southeastern United States.

What is, to me, ironic is that one of the state legislators vehemently opposed to doing away with permits for vehicle carry is a member of the group originally targeted by this law.

You mean like blacks voting for Democrats (+96% at last count), the party that is essentially destroying their race in this country?

It was republicans who wrote the 38 page gun control bill that passed and was signed into law by our republican governor. It was republicans who killed the bill that would have repealed the requirement to obtain a permit to exercise the right to bear arms using a pistol while in a vehicle in Alabama.

Whites who vote for republicans who violate our constitutions are better than blacks who vote for democrats who violate our constitutions?

I don't get your point. Racism does nothing for our cause.

Sure it does.........it fragments it.
Grape, here in Alabama, we have the finest politicians, of both parties, that money can buy. I can just about guarantee that any bill not approved by either the Alabama Sheriffs' Association, the Alabama Business Council, or the Alabama Education Association will not pass. I will also guarantee that any politician arousing the ire of any one of these can kiss his chances of re-election good-bye.

There is a huge amount of back room deals and under-the-counter campaign financing that has gone on in this state for ages. We've had a governor found guilty of violating state ethics laws and removed from office. As an interesting note, this same governor was an ordained minister!
