Make one up yourself. That's what I do. The things you want to include are seller's name, buyer's name, model and manufacturer, serial number, date of sale, price, and places were you both can sign and print your names.

Optionally, you might consider including addresses and the buyer's driver's license number if you wish.

You might want to do a search of gun bill of sale on Google.
Here's one I found at:

It's a bit much, but I love the stolen gun provisions. There are others. I reallyprefer to do agun transaction witha bill of sale. But it simply isn't always possible.

The one thing I noticed on this BOS is that it assumes that you have transferred an owners manual with it and that the owners manual is the correct one. Also the buyer does not have to be 21 in all states.

As was said I would require a DL# or some kind of actual ID rather than a phone number.

I wouldn't.

Once I sell something, I don't give a rat's rear who has it, it's out of my hands.

I just sold a pistol a few months ago, never even asked the guy's name beyond him introducing himself by his first name. Couldn't tell you what he looked like now, either.

How did you obtain that gun? Through an FFL or from a private party?

What's the relevance of your question?

why even do one? - just sell the gun.
Well im from a small city called Kearns which is like the Compton of Utah. I live a block away from the high school where there is a gun pulled everyday and a shooting thats caught atleast once a month.
So I just wanted to cover my own butt. i dont want to have to profile people but I guess now a days you have to.

In this day and age I would not ever consider selling a firearm to anyone without getting their correct legal name, address, and some form of Govt. issued ID numbers. there are way too many chances to get in trouble for "transferring a firearm to a __________" (fill in the blank) because he may sell it to someone else and it may still come back to you as being the villain for selling the gun to someone else in the first place.

Look at what happened to David Olofson in WI, an acquaintance of hiswas using his AR-15 at a target range, the gun malfunctioned with a slam-fire and discharged 3 rounds and jammed. Now Olofson is sitting in a federal prison because of it.

My most used gun dealer added a questionnaire onto his normal paperwork where the buyer must also fill in if he is under the influence of alcohol, prescription or illicit drugs, that he is is sound state of mind and all other types of crap. He does this to cover his own arse.

Actually, as it turned out, Olofson knew about the issues his rifle had and warned his friend about it.

About ten years ago, the comedian Mark Britten coined a great nickname for Kearns...

Meth Lab with a View. :p

ETA... I don't do bills of sale, ID, CFP... If I want to buy from a private party, and they ask me that crap,I tell them to keep the gun.

if it is illegal in your state to sell privately, then don;t do it - a bill of sale just proves your guilt.

A bill of sale in a state that allows private sales does nothing for you because there is no crime to sell guns privately. Come on.

I think the point is if it was FFL the paper trail ends with him at the moment, not whoever he sold it to.
