There have been some recent threads being locked in Michigan because there were deemed "off topic" when the conversation shifted. No where in the rules does it say a thread cannot follow a natural path away from the OP. Why is it paramount a thread not explore additional lines off thinking in a natural way? Must every thread be cut abruptly and a new thread started if the topic shifts?

The only rule I see about "on topic" doesn't seem to apply to my scenario. Please explain.

(8) KEEP IT ON-TOPIC: All gun rights discussions not directly related to open carry should take place in the "General Discussions" forum and topics that are not related to gun rights at all should take place in "The Lounge". Please police your own posts before posting them and help keep OCDO strong and focused.

Your threads are being closed because you're launching subtle personal attacks and arguing with a moderator when he tells you to knock it off. If you don't like it here, then go elsewhere. This really isn't a topic for a public thread. If you have an issue with moderation then PM Administrator and handle it that way.

Well aren't you friendly. Grapeshot said this was the place to discuss rules. Sorry.

"The discussion of Forum Rules belongs in the following thread where it may be seen and shared with all states equally - it's not just Michigan related.

--snipped--

Telling part of the story and not all of it is at best deceiving the reader. Your not so subtle personal attacks and refusal to accept moderation is the problem.

"Discussion" does not include promoting a personal agenda in opposition to the standards of the forum, especially after such was made very clear to you.

So.....

I understand that to keep a discussion professional swearing is looked down on but as a veteran who thinks that Illinois gun laws are unconstitutional I also believe that using swear words is a right and trying to censor use of them is unconstitutional. I use swearing to emphasize a sentence and although some will look down on it, it is my use of free speech. You can't defend just one right. Respond and let me know what you think.

....I'm totally new here, what was the final decision on this topic.
Thanks

I'm not sure that there was an official response but swear words are heavily frowned upon here. They are simply not necessary or appropriate on this forum. Just don't do it. And remember Rule 2:

(2) RIGHT TO EDIT AND DELETE POSTS: We reserve the right to edit or remove posts for any reason, at any time, at our sole discretion.

I hope occasional swear words continue to be allowed. America's literary giant Mark Twain used them regularly, and defended their use quite humorously.

"Under certain circumstances, urgent circumstances, desperate circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer." Mark Twain.

That is a good one with which to start.

This forum is widely read by people of all ages, genders, pro-gun and anti-gun. Why would we wish to offend anyone or tarnish our image?

Why is it that people who play with big brass guns are always worried about tarnish? Nothing a little Duraglit or Brasso won't fix.

Did Porter let a little tarnish get in his way on the afternoon of July 3, 1863? Nope. He just got busy with his mission: shellac-ing Cemetary Ridge with his batteries.

Don't ask why, just do or....

Tarnish? That's a naturally forming destructive process that can be prevented if you follow the simple rules. Simichrome works for dress occasions. That is the unvarnished truth.

Not trying to be acidic, but the basic rules are in place and just keep on running.

The Rules rule especially regarding cursing, off-color remarks, sexual content, or anything else demeaning to the forum - it is the 2nd that protects the rest.

Rule concerning long gun carry should be dropped.....the reasons given in the basic rule explanation are bogus and false..plus there is an exception ?? what??

I agree with the first part of the sentence; before the ellipses.
"Open Carry" of anything is now banned in California. I we don't band together pretty quickly, the assault on long arms and the Second Amendment will gather momentum. I would respectfully suggest a section on the various state fora for OC'ing long guns. I do not believe it will detract from the "conversation".

Until (not likely) the owners of OCDO change the rules, Rule #14 will stand.

Excepted from that rule: "...the fact that the long gun carry issue distracts from our main mission to promote the open carry of handguns in daily life, we will leave long gun carry activism in the capable hands of the future founders of web sites about long gun carry."
http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/misc.php?do=showrules

PS - Banning both handgun and longun carry may just be the best thing that has happened in California - it opens the door wide for a challenge through the courts.

Or possibly will awaken Californians to what is happening and they can work to change the laws in their state!

Long Gun OC Exception?

I live in Montana and my wilderness hikes also include a .22 rifle on occasion. This is completely legal even when hunting season is not active. I understand the reason for the rule of no long gun OC in the forums, but long gun OC is a way of life here, especially on horseback. I think there is room for another long gun OC exception here.
Thank you
Sukkot Prepper.

When you stop at the gas station on your way out of town or into the convenience store to get your snacks for the day, are you still OC'ing the rifle?

Many people routinely handle/carry/use long guns for a variety of reasons - this is just not the place for those discussions. I see no rule change on the horizon.

Forum Rules
(14) LONG GUN CARRY IS OFF-TOPIC: This web site is focused on the right to openly carry properly holstered handguns in daily American life. We do NOT promote the carry of long guns. Long guns are great! OCDO co-founders John & Mike and most of the members of this forum own at least one long gun - but due to urban area issues of muzzle control, lack of trigger guard coverage, and the fact that the long gun carry issue distracts from our main mission to promote the open carry of handguns in daily life, we will leave long gun carry activism in the capable hands of the future founders of web sites about long gun carry.

You have serious control issues. If this entire forum is as you present, then it is anti gun, (long guns are guns too) anti 2ed, 1st, and 4th amendment, and cators to police.

I have not broke opencarry's rules but Grapeshot will continue to target me, locking and deleting my topics and replys until I am baned from posting here, However I will continue on AmericaChat, and on OhioOpenCarry. Also I have considered posting on Planetinfowars. Just so others know for the short time this reply lasts.
OCDO has never purported to be all things for all people - it is however private property and subject to the rules and control of the site owners.

If you are in any manner restricted here, it is of your own doing. Without question you have been adequately warned, yet you persist. Sad.
