your article's quote....the researchers found that school shootings occurred less frequently in states that spent more money on mental health services, compared with states that spent less. This suggests that mental health service providers may help states screen people who could harm themselves or others with firearms....unquote.

or some such BS.

Then there is this gem at the end of the story.

"This study was observational, so the researchers noted that they cannot firmly conclude that there is a cause-and-effect relationship between background checks or other factors and school shootings."

Personal opinion: The only way that I can imagine drastically reducing, if not halting entirely, school shootings is to have some teachers and administrators trained, armed, and not only carrying, but exercising much more situational awareness than is now the case.

The question is who is going to select the teachers and administrators to be trained and armed? Back, many years ago, when I was still in school, I had both teachers and administrators that I would not have trusted with a water pistol. I do not think that situation has changed a whole lot. And, no, I do not think that is a question than can be left in the hands of any government agency.

I believe we have said it before on this forum: All a "gun-free zone" is, is a target-rich environment for a criminal or a mentally-disturbed person.

Or, or, a pie-in-the-sky idea, let parents a) stop relying on the .govs to raise their kids and b) parents actually raise their kids !

A novel idea, incomprehensible notion to many .govs.

Indeed, hence this "Sensible Plan Towards Armed Teachers." It takes most, if not all of your concerns into consideration. :)
