Hi all, this is my first post and I am a new member, glad to find a site dedicated to open carry. I live on a military base so naturally I do not carry around home, however anytime I go into las cruces I def carry. I lived in las cruces for a year and the crime rate and general population is enough to make anyone uneasy. anyway. I walked into an autozone in las cruces. I carry a 1911.45 paddle holster, condition 1. Basically every person in the store was hispanic and normally, in my experience, only about half can speak english. apperently the sight of a big white male with a gun scared most of them. As the store was empty within 3 minutes of me walking in. The clerk didnt say anything, but kept glancing at my hip, clearly uncomfortable. I asked him a few questions regarding a project Im working on, he answered them shortly, and I left. There was a group of hispanics outside, apperently they had been told about my oc and waited till I got in my car to go in the store. Now why would good law abiding Americans be scared of a gun?

They probably thought you were BCIS there to check for green cards. Sorry, I know that was in poor taste, but I just couldn't help myself. My wife is a legal immigrant, and we spent 3 years and nearly $15K including indirect expenses to get her status.

It is possible you are not to far off on your statement. I even had illegals approach me when I recruited for the National Guard in North Carolina wanting to join after Sept 11th. Had to tell them to get a green card. I could have made a killing that year on my "mission" had I been allowed to enlist them .
