Some great news for Australian shooters.

Shooters Union has just received official recognition as an international affiliate of the United States NRA (National Rifle Association). This affiliation fits well with the Union’s main role to defend the rights of law abiding firearm owners within Queensland and the Nation.

So what does that do for us here in Australia?

Well, it gives us affiliation with the largest, most powerful, most effective and most recognised shooting organisation in the world. It gives us access to information, training events and competition shoot formats, as well as alignment with many other international pro-firearms rights groups which are also affiliated to the NRA.

This is an important step for your Shooters Union’s growth and ability to develop effective strategies to improve firearms legislation in Queensland and across Australia in the future.

Congratulations to our Treasurer Jan Linsley who has worked tirelessly to make this affiliation happen.

We realise that sometimes it does not look like much is happening on the SU front but be assured that Jan Linsley, Rob Harrold, Chris Howard and the entire growing management committee are hard at work behind the scenes developing and improving our services as well as developing relationships with firearms friendly politicians across the country.

Let’s all work together to make Queensland and Australia a better place for legal firearms owners. As one of the safest and most law abiding groups in the country, you deserve respect from our political representatives and police forces everywhere and we are working to make sure you get it.

Thanks

Graham Park

President

Australian Shooters Union.

Tim Shooters and Fishers Party Aus. wrote;

"I had the chance to chat to some NRA members active in Republican politics while I was attending a course in the States earlier this month, and when I told them I work with the Shooters and Fishers Party they thought it was just about the greatest thing they had ever heard that we had a dedicated party for shooters. Even had one or two tell me to send them an email before the election in 2015 and they will try to come down and help out, But as Matt points out, American politics is a completely different World."

Robert Brown NSW S&FParty wrote;

"Spot on Tim.
One of the major differences is that they have a "proper" Constitution, and they fought a war to get it.

Is there any hope for gun rights for y'all haz?

If good men like us fellows do nothing, if we stop protesting, if we stop writing to our so called elected politicians? the the answer is No! But thankfully there are many thousands of LAFO's like myself and Dw98 here in Aus., who are doing just that! We minority, got rid of the, "I hate guns, garden gnome, we got rid of Barry Gunsworth, I mean Barry Unsworth, former NSW Premier, and we now have two members in the senate in the NSW parliament fighting for our right to hunt, own firearms, fish, and use public property to horse ride and doe every other sport the anties and green fun police have tried to saddle the Australian people with. I kept my firearms by jumping through every hoop the government placed before us. many gave up and declared it was too hard! pretty piss weak if you ask me! These are the softies who now whine and cry now that gun crime, home invasions, rape, murder, car-nappings, are on the increase.

Well said. I've known ex-shooters who folded and handed in all their firearms (the ones that were still legal), and some of them now admit that they made a mistake. The rest of them have gone completely anti, though.

I had an anti say to me not too long ago, "criminals here can get whatever they want; the law doesn't matter", yet they seem unable to make the connection that law-abiding firearms owners are not criminals, and are not, nor ever will be the problem.

We still have a long way to go, but hopefully someday positive change will happen.

G-Day mate. I agree.

You say;
"I've known ex-shooters who folded and handed in all their firearms (the ones that were still legal),"
.

Sad isn't it? I witnessed this myself. I was at the police station having the barrels measured on my hand guns when a bloke came in and handed over all of his saying, "I HAVE HAD ENOUGH, HERE TAKE THESE. The police officer there shook his head and commented, don't do this, its just another governmental loophole! The guy gave him his firearms, his licence, his registration papers and after the cops checked it all he walked out? What a coward, what a weak kneed limp wristed dip-stick. I hope he never stands behind me if the day comes when the poo hits the fan?

Next time an anti says to you, "criminals here can get whatever they want; the law doesn't matter," reply with; "And we all know how they get what ever they want." We, meaning you and I DW98, obey the laws of the land. Plus, we work for what we want. Plus we do not rape, pillage, plunder, murder, invade homes, steal cars, like the cowards that smashed their way into the 92 year old elderly man's home, then bashed him half to death and robbed him yesterday in Sydney. Then you can add, "Its cowards like you who lay down and cop it sweet, giving up, and those who believe they are the royal ruling elite, who believe they have supreme authority to rule over us and not serve as was was intended, they have enabled criminals to get what ever they want, and ignore EVERY law regardless.

Cheers mate,

Haz.

Glad to hear it good luck. Its not so different over here the bill of rights we have is being chipped away as we speak. I fear we will suffer the same fate as y'all did.
Not on [strike]my[/strike] our watch!

If you see a flaming duck, stamp it out before it ignites the entire field.

Watching.

That's something I've never understood. If you don't want your firearms anymore, sell them to someone that does. Why hand them in to be destroyed? As you said, cowards.

I'd like to get into pistols, but the restrictions are just too much. I guess it's pretty ironic that I don't own any handguns and regularly post on a forum for open carry :lol:

I doubt you'll go the same way as us. They are too many legally owned firearms and firearms owners in the U.S.

Unrelated, but is anyone familiar with crime in Minneapolis? There was a fatal shooting about 15 minutes from my house this morning and the news interviewed a resident, originally from Minneapolis, where apparently shootings were "commonplace". Is that true or is it just the anti media trying to make everyone believe the U.S. is the wild west like usual?

Mother-of-three Jamad Mohamud was making breakfast when she heard what sounded like an explosion. "Then when I saw all the police cars so after I knew what it was," she said. "My kids asked what was happening, but I didn't tell them. I didn't want to scare them."Ms Mohamud said she used to live in Minneapolis, where shootings were commonplace.

"I thought no one had guns here," she said.

The criminals do.

I've always wondered the same. If you turn in your guns, you're accepting a huge loss and not doing anything to prevent the violence caused by criminals who engage in violence with illegally-possessed/acquired firearms.:confused: If they were to sell the firearms to Law-Abiding Citizens, a good home is found for the firearms:D, and some money is recovered.:)

As to posting on OCDO while not owning handguns, I think you fall under the "where OC is prohibited" clause. Because let's face it, a long trail of hoops to jump through is essentially a prohibition. I may be wrong though, so let's keep this a secret here amongst ourselves.:p
Is there any leeway for "antique" pistols? Would cap & ball revolvers be good candidates?

You sound like an optimist, and your kind (optimists) seem to be in short supply these days. I consider you an endangered species.:lol: Regardless, with the public schools pumping out good Obama-followers, and all the blatant propaganda weaved into school curriculums (Common Core, for one), these are sad times for Liberty my friend.:(
The little ones are being taught that simple Democracy is good, and a simple majority makes something alright. They aren't taught this by its true name: mob rule. And don't even mention the U.S. being a Constitutional Republic at the start...

Exactly. Private sales are illegal here, but it's not hard to do through a dealer.

Not in my state, unfortunately. They even banned replicas about a year ago. It takes the same amount of time to get an air pistol than it does to get a Desert Eagle.

I've got hope for you guys, not so much for us. I can't see the laws here getting better anytime soon, I think they'll get worse honestly.

In regards to your youth being turned into antis, the same thing is happening here, but at larger rates. When I was in high school we had a debate about gun control in class one day, and 95% of them supported an outright ban. I like to think that there are more pro-firearm advocates in the United States.

I hear Arizona is nice. I've got a friend who is moving there shorty from "Hellfornia" as he calls it :lol:

Even replicas? The stupid is strong with those politicians. Ditto on the air pistol thing.

I think the only thing that helps us here in the U.S. is the fact that a few of the original founders lost the argument that arms were so much a part of every free person that it need not be included in the Bill of Rights. If they could see what is being done, I'm sure they would agree that losing that argument was one of the best things that happened to this country.

Sorry to hear about the schools. That sounds even worse than what is going on here.:(

If your friend isn't already on OCDO, let him know about us, and you can also extend my greetings to him as well. I'm always glad to meet another Freedom-loving individual.:)

Apparently they caused too much "public concern" and were being used in armed robberies. Ironically, I've seen them for sale in plain view at markets. :lol:

A replica, which is completely disabled, is banned, yet the average citizen can get a scoped pump-action rifle that holds 15 rounds without too much trouble (depending on the state or territory) :rolleyes: Even the U.K. allows replicas.

Funny thing about the schools, the teachers seemed more pro-gun than the students. About 60% of my teachers were South African and appreciated the right to self-defence. Coming from a place like that I can't see how you couldn't.

He's in the process of moving at the moment and won't have internet for a while, but I'll definitely let him know. Hopefully he'll sign up. Apparently OC or CC in California is rare. As a retired LEO, he's one of the few that is allowed to carry a firearm.

G-Day mates.

One can buy replica pistols and some rifles now in NSW at several specialty up market men's / gift & tobacconists. I have seen them myself in several cities. They are in my opinion, expensive, ranging in price from $70 to $100 +, but fairly basic, they are heavy, made of steel, and some have a red or yellow plastic plug insert in the barrel end, which is easily removed. Anyone who knows pistols, one look and they immediately know they are replicas.

A few criminals have purchased them, removed the red plastic barrel plug and held up convenience shops. Our illustrious police minister, who should know better is crying for them to be banned as they are, and I quote him;

"They are exact copies of real handguns."
.

No They are Not exact copies!

As soon as I saw the first and picked it up I knew it was a toy.
If someone held one of these in my face I would laugh, as long as they never hit me over the head with it.

BUT! push one in the face of an un-experienced brainwashed person who was taught that guns kill people, those who never ever seen a firearm before, those who thought meat came from Woolworths, and milk came from the refrigerator, and who were brainwashed and told that the police have nothing better to do than to save you while you are being robbed, raped, being stabbed, your car was being stolen, YE'H, they would swear they were real DUNS AND BUWETS?

In My humble opinion! If our government ever totally banned all firearms, I believe many will hand them in under duress and to avoid jail, and they will do what criminals now do! Our government will make thousands of LAFO's, law breakers, and who wants that?

They'll probably ban replicas there soon enough.

The Greens will have gained more ammunition to ban handguns after this.

I've been to the Gold Coast range that's mentioned. He must have jumped the barrier. Either that or the gun wasn't secured properly.
