SNIP

"Instead of rewarding law-abiding Australian gun owners for securing their guns and keeping them safe in their homes, Australia announces it will "allow" gun owners to hand in so-called illegal firearms without [compensation or] penalty next year [2017].

Wow, what's wrong with gun ownership in Commonwealth countries?

Scared of your own neighbors?

I think not - "down-under" political correctness has gone wild!!

I remain astonished that we here in America continue to worry about their plight, a plight of their own making.

1-Decent men might well mourn the plight of others even when of their own making.

2-Even those who do not mourn and might even enjoy watching others suffer the consequences of their own poor decisions, might be wise enough to watch and learn so as to better avoid similar problems of his own.

are you attempting to apply our American 'want-a-be' societal perspectives to another society's culture located across the world? if so it hasn't worked in the past, no matter how much we wish it were so...

just saying...

I do not mourn the plight of those who do not stand up for themselves when they are perfectly capable of doing so.

There is no lesson to be learned from Australia's plight.

I did limit my assertion to decent men.

And there is almost always something to be learned from others and their situations. Only the arrogant or ignorant tend to claim otherwise.

From Australia we have yet another example that infringing individual RKBA does not reduce violent crime. We also have another example that no infringement of individual RKBA will ever satisfy the gun grabbers, no matter what they say. Every infringement is merely a stepping stone to the next infringement, with the ultimate goal to disarm the population entirely. We also have another example of the dangers of not having a written constitution with written protections of the RKBA. While our 2nd amendment and State RKBA provisions have not perfectly protected our RKBA, I think they have provided a level of protection not available in their absence.

Finally, the fact that this forum contains a sum-forum for Australia and New Zealand suggests that our hosts consider RKBA related events in those nations to be of some interest and/or use to forum members. Of course, nobody is forced to read anything he considers a total waste of time on these forums.

I have pondered your post for a while now and it is clear to me that you missed my point entirely. Decent men will not permit themselves to be subjugated as the decent folk of Australia have allowed themselves to be. They need only look at what we here in America have accomplished to restore our gun right, and how we accomplished it. They have not done so and continue to enable the further erosion of their RKBA.

I have the impression, and perhaps a resident can confirm/deny, that Australia, like in so many American states, gets rolled over by its dense liberal urban areas. If so, we see the same thing, even with our 2A protection, in several states.

Very much so.

I don't have much hope for this country anymore. I used to think it wouldn't be too long before we got our semi-autos and pump shotguns back, but it's not going to happen. The laws will only get stricter as time goes on. Once they take that 'privilege' away, you're not getting it back.

Don't suppose there's much demand for bouncers in the US?

 The latter. Maybe one day...

Very astute observation by Deepdiver. You are even seeing that in Texas - Dallas/Houston/Austin/SanAntonio/El Paso are all democrat-controlled counties. I know in Texas there's lots of need for the latter bouncers. Depending on what part of town, job needs go all the way from a Big Guy to Cage-fighting experience and company-issued kevlar vests...
