Howdy Beau!
I think more folks on the OCDO forum might be interested in this information if they could learn more about it without a requirement to join another forum in order to read about it.

Really, the link you provided reveals absolutely nothing apart from a page to register for the COGO forum. Not everybody wants to do that.

Naturally, the question follows... why not just post the information openly and let folks decide whether to attend based on the information without compelling them to join another forum in order to get the information? Why not simply explain the what, where, when, why and how and let folks decide to attend (or not) based on straight up reporting of the event.

By posting a link where the information is not available without joining up for another website or forum is a bit underhanded, in my personal opinion.
You're using this forum to promote a competing forum. Does not seem ethical to me. It's like you're farming this forum for members to join a different forum.

I won't join another forum that I am unfamiliar with when I don't have sufficient information to make my own decision arrived at by mote of free will rather than being coerced into doing so in order to meet up with folks I don't know for a purpose obscure enough to avoid posting straight-up.

If the event, and the organization behind it, are legit, then post the information without requiring anybody to join another forum to make their decision about attending. Then, based on what they learn at the event in question, maybe they'll want to join that other forum on their own free will. Otherwise it just seems sneaky and underhanded.

I do not mean to sound harsh, but that's how it strikes me!

Blessings,

Hey M-T. I was not aware that one had to join to view. It was my impression that guests can view the site. Maybe certain forums are restricted.

Join, don't join, don't care. As far as the forum being legit I'm not sure what you mean. It's just another gun forum.

Breakfast is at 0830 today

Location is IHOP on Mississippi just off 225.

Table name is under Beau.

I'm a member over on cogunowners, and I can assure you the site is legit. I do know that they were having issues over there with quite a few spam posts - mostly a lot of jibber jabber that made no sense with links to "winning Lotto numbers", and my guess is they did something to try to eliminate those posts. I'll forward your concerns about not being able to view the site without joining to the site admins and see if they were aware of the fact that the site can't be seen without joining. I don't think that Beau's intentions were to just drive people to join over there, as he is not an admin or mod for the site - heck, he's the one that pointed me over here from COGO.

I will be there, along with Beau and a couple others, and hope to possibly see some others from this site as well. I haven't been to any meet-ups with the guys over there, but I do know that the one I attended from here art the Golden Corral in Aurora was a good time.

UPDATE:

I sent a PM to the site admin regarding not being able to view the site without joining. I also signed out and poked around as a guest, and it appears that there are just a couple areas of the site that can't be viewed, and my guess is now that when they upgraded the site software a few weeks ago some of the settings got mixed up.

Additionally, I don't understand how a Colorado specific, general gun owners site would be a competing site with this forum that is specifically directed at open carry and those that support or are interested in it.

I really hoped you'd accepted my questions in the spirit intended. I certainly didn't intend to express any unkindness.
But yeah... ya hadda join that forum in order to see the information and that wasn't too shpadoinkle. I have enough on my plate now. Time has come when I need to be a bit picky about what I join up with because I ain't really got time for all the stuff I'm trying to keep up with already!

As for 'it's just another gun forum...' I have a story behind my note of caution there.
A few years back, I signed up for a forum that sounded (based soley on description) like a good match for me in terms of spirituality.
Just another spiritual site, if you will. Nothing in the description gave any indication what I was stumbling into.

Turned out to be a Neo-Nazi site. Not exactly the sort of spirituality I was looking for.

So when it comes to joining up with any other site, description alone doesn't quite satisfy my curiosity. Just a description of "just another gun site (itself something of a pun...)" doesn't overcome being a bit gunshy after having once shot myself in the foot by joining a forum I knew little or nothing about.

All of that aside, I'll think on showing up there this morning. We are fixing to travel down to Cripple Creek today, so it's kinda on the way.

Blessings,

Howdy Pard!
As I wrote in response to Beau this morning, I get suspicious when referred to a site you cannot see anything except a registration page when you get there. Has to do with joining a site once that wasn't exactly what I thought it was based on description. The episode left me feeling somewhat... pardon the pun once more.... gunshy. Besides that site not being what I thought it was, I don't own any brown shirts.

Meanwhile, I anticipate turning up because it is along our intended line of travel for the day. We're off to Cripple Creek to break in the newly acquired Jeep on the Phantom Canyon Road and maybe return on the Shelf Road. A hearty breakfast might do nicely to stabilize the stomach before the trip to Crip!

Blessings,
