After all the forward momentum we have both seen and help implement that tookplace in this state, Brad & Jesus getting arrested, and all the city officials that have gone ballistic with JB's memo, all the police departments using internal memo's basically stating "O-C is a legal protected right, Hands off, or wear kid-gloves when handling" but Madison goes the other way and still arrests people and charges them with D-C.

Are we as a group going to sit back and do nothing in support of Travis andnot make our voices heard about our displeasure with the city of Madisons blatant dismissal of our guaranteed rights.

If I am typing a bit incoherrently right now, I apologize. I am pissed-off to no end over the event that involved Travis.
We need to protest these actions by exercising our 2A rights and converging on the city of Madison to show our intolerance of our guaranteed rights being violated by the Madison Police department.

Can someone link to the internal memo that was posted earlier this year after JB's memo, and how they stated O-C would be handled properly? I had it, But cannot find it.

Disorderly Conduct—Visible Weapons
Wisconsin’s Attorney General recently released an advisory
memorandum discussing the applicability of the disorderly
conduct statute to individuals openly carrying firearms. The
central point of the memorandum was: “mere open carry of a
firearm, absent additional facts and circumstances, should
not result in a disorderly conduct charge.” Many have asked
what impact, if any, this has on MPD officers’ decisions
when confronted with these types of situations. The short
answer is that this does not change the way in which MPD
officers respond to reports of people openly carrying
firearms. A few points:

First, it is important to realize that the memorandum is
advisory only, and is for “educational and informational”
purposes. It does not in any way restrict the legal authority
of officers to take action or of individual prosecutors to
pursue charges.

Second, the memo only addressed the applicability of the
disorderly conduct statute to the open carrying of a firearm.
It did not in any way address any other firearm-related
statutes.

Third, the memo confirms that officers in most
circumstances can stop a person openly carrying a firearm in
public to investigate possible criminal activity.

Finally, a close reading of the memo makes it clear that the
Attorney General’s position is simply that a disorderly
conduct charge is not automatically appropriate anytime
someone is openly carrying a firearm. The examples
provided by the memo illustrate this:

• “a hunter openly carrying a rifle or shotgun on his property
during hunting season while quietly tracking game should not
face a disorderly conduct charge. But if the same hunter
carries the same rifle or shotgun through a crowded street
while barking at passerby, the conduct may lose…its
protection.”

• “A person openly carrying a holstered handgun on his own
property while doing lawn work should not face a disorderly
conduct charge…if, however, a person brandishes a handgun
in public, the conduct may lose its…protection.”

So, MPD officers responding to reports of an individual
openly carrying a firearm should continue to respond as was
the case prior to this memo’s release. The suspect should
generally be detained, using proper tactics to ensure officer
and community safety. Officers should then conduct an
investigation to determine whether an arrest is appropriate.
To support a disorderly conduct charge it will continue to be
necessary to show that the carrying of the firearm—under
those particular circumstances—was the type of behavior
that caused, or tends to cause, a disturbance. The location of
the incident, the behavior of the suspect and the reactions of
witnesses will all be relevant to this determination.

re-reading that Madison PD memo has now got my blood boiling even more.

The city obviouslytookthe AG's memoas a challenge to get around the laws that are in place protect us from the police. TheAG's statement thata citizen in possession of aholstered gun is not evidence that a crime is afoot, nor is it probable cause for detainment has obviously fallen on deaf ears and blind eyes!

Maybe we need to sticky the Madsion memo in a split-screen page with the AG's memo side by side so others can understand the government hypocrisy we are forced to endure in Wisconsin. This crap has got to end, I would like to see the Madison PD try to arrest 50 or more citizens legally possessing a sidearm. What are they going to do, bring out the SWAT team for people exercising their rights.

does anyone care to join me in Madsion this coming weekend to go about armed on State St.? let me know.

Thanks for getting that up so quick Doug, I have been using multiple external hard-drives, and I did not know which one I had it on,

Looking at how far your "little" trip is, I would feel compelled to also go. I would like someone that knows the Madison area very well to come also, as I do not know the locations of any schools. To be honest, I do not even know my way around the city at all... Is not Shotgun from the Madison area? Shotgun, you up for it?

A quick search on the Madison Metro School District website yielded this pdf map of the city and school locations.

http://drupal.madison.k12.wi.us/files/schools/maps/District_Map_Detailed.pdf

Some of the marks are hard to see, but presumably all of their schools are noted on the map. The downtown area looks golden for an OC event, believe many members have stated that before.

Thanks for the map. I'llsave a copy. Well any Madison people on the site? I would love to walk around your home town for a few hours. You could show me the good places to get lunch (and still OC).
