I have to be honest...I'm not 100% sure if he was an open carry guy but it looks the he used his firearm in SD. Maybe some of you guys that are better with law than myself can take a peak at this case...

Interesting case that needs looking into. There just aren't enough facts in the story to tell what happened.

It's a little amusing in a morbid way though....A Dean shooting a Crawford.
Both families are famous for shooting people during social engagements.

If there had been a Shifflett involved, it could have been a who's who in Elkton event.

Had not heard of the case until you posted. Verry interestink, as they say.

I'm guessing that the transcripts at the website are from bond hearings - but I'm confused that they would go into the detail and into the details of the incident instead of focusing on a) his not being a flight risk or b) his not being a threat to the community. I'm also guessing that the questioning is by the defense attorney. The heading on the transcript shows it to be cross-examination which means the Commonwealth opened up the issues - another verry interestink issue.

On top of everything else, I'm fascinated to learn that Mr. Dean "grabbed his .44 mm pistol*". I guess the reportologist who typed that also failed to ace his basic math classes.

stay safe.

* The .44mm round is the 19,427,329,752th most dangerous round in the world. While it is true that it can go through a school seven blocks away after penetrating an engine block, the temporary wound cavity is only the size of a garbanzo bean. Using Fackler's one-shot stop formula, the round has a value with so many zeros after the decimal point before any other integer appears that it is commonly reduced to the shorthand form of "0.0".

Funny things you remember.

The news said:
Crawford allegedly pulled out a telescoping baton and Dean grabbed his .44 mm pistol to scare him.

The first murder case I remember was probably 55 years ago and it involved one of the Deans.

In that case the man who was killed was arguing with Dean on the top of the mountain. He pulled a blank pistol to scare Dean, Dean in turn grabbed his gun from the glove compartment and shot him.

Nap...it's obvious you know your Elkton history LOL. When I get off my mobile I'll post a picture of my Dean descendants as my Grandmother was a Dean. :) I'll also try to dig up more info on this situation if I can.

A lot of my misspent youth was in those mountains around Elkton. If you didn't know the Dean family, you weren't really there.

Lots of stories from a different time. Elkton is pretty tame now.
