Up dating avitars is NOT a problem.
I have seen you and many others change to new ones, they think are cooler or betterer than the old ones...
Thats is not a dellema(sp).
The only time it has problem has been when an argumenter has COPIED an avitar of an oppenent during a back and foreth discousion.
It is a very special transgression.
The new rule is not realy pointed at anyone new to the forum that chooses an avitar.

I really don't think the rule is intended to be applied against folks who inadvertently use common images for an avatar, and it turns out another user has the same.

It's specifically designed to prohibit what matt did, changing his avatar in the middle of a discussion (argument) to that of the person he was arguing with, for the express purpose of confusing people/generally trolling.

I really don't see a need for a new rule. This seems to be the type of situation that can be handled on a case-by-case basis...by simply applying Rule 6 or 7.

Rules 19, 21, and 22 have sadly been added because certain individuals have be acting like unruly children. Kinda depressing if you ask me...

All to frequently it is the exception that causes the rule.

Most people here understand the need for rules, to maintain some semblance of order in accordance with the site owners' wishes.

Rule #2 has been evoked before and likely will be again if found necessary - it is best described as a "called judgement".

Overall the desire is to moderate with a light hand, unfortunately there are a few that will try to force the administration's hand. There is no future in that position here.

BTW - first time I have ever seen someone claim the lack of an avatar = an avatar. Thanks to those for the laugh

I was being sarcastic. I'm not really offended by avatars. Sorry.

My comment about a blank avatar was to highlight the absurdity of making a rule just because a very few people used others' avatars for editorial purposes.

There is something I learned a long time ago. I got caught in a business discussion involving a customer who had pulled a fast one resulting in no real loss--just some heavy annoyance about the way he treated an employee. Right away, others in the discussion started coming up with "rules" we might implement to prevent a recurrence. I just quietly asked, "Does this sort of thing really happen often enough to need a rule?" Everybody looked at me like I was Yoda or something, promptly agreed that nobody could remember the last time it had occurred, and dropped it. The point being that not every situation needs a rule.

Frankly, I find matt2636 more annoying than a rule which will rarely be enforced.

Rules ≠ laws. Laws (at least under Law Enfarcement) tend to be enforced whether they ought to be or not. Private rules are little more than guidelines, which provide an indication of administrative action should you violate them badly enough. They don't have to be enforced every time their letter is violated, simply because they exist. This forum is lightly moderated.

Worrying about the quantity of "rules" is about as obsessive as my buddy who counts the pieces of chicken in his Tikka Masala. Is the Tikka Masala good, and filling? Then it has enough chicken. Can you say what you need to say without being banned? Then the forum doesn't have too many rules.

i think its funny how people want protection from the forum administrator. then i read all the "gun control" debate on here and people say they can take care of themselves and dont wan more laws. granted we dont have a forum constitution its just funny how hypocritical some can be.

Constitution or no, it's apples and oranges.

You come here, which is private property, and you violate the owners' rules. What do they do? They expel you.

Government comes onto your property, and demands you follow their laws. You violate them. What do they do? They shoot you.

Rules ≠ laws.
