I would like to live in HI, but the wife would not like it. I've been to all the islands except the big island (Kauai in a couple of months).

Maybe when I'm retired I can convince her to move... But who knows, all depends on family situations.

Ideally I would rather live in NH and buy a condo in HI that I could rent out for the months I wouldn't be there, but the logistics of that are very complicated and much harder than people realize.

You won't last if you're sensitive about being called a haole.
That being said I'd have moved back if it wasn't for their horrible gun infringements.

You never told me you were a racist, Damn that is the funniest thing anyone has ever accused you of on OCDO.

;) I know right! ....lol.

I'll last just fine :) I lived in Newark, NJ for 4 years.... And regarding their gun laws, they are bad, but I'll be able to conceal carry so for me that's not a problem.

Ahh the unconstitutional LESA acts?

Yep. But like 99% of unconstitutional laws, they are upheld anyway since the constitution has no teeth.

But I've never carried under LEOSA in Hawaii. I've carried under my agencies policy that way I could bring a gun that holds over 10 rounds, carry on the plane to Hawaii, and carry in their state parks, since LEOSA alone doesn't override carry bans in state installations buildings or parks where state law prohibits them.

I used to be a cop in Hawaii and in the academy we were discussing the laws surrounding carry without a permit. I asked the instructor "what does a permit look like?"

He got a strange look on his face and conceded he did not know. He had never seen one. This guy was a Maui County cop for 25 yrs and had been teaching in the academy for several more years.

He got a voided blank to bring into class a few days later, so we could see what this rare device looked like. He did some research and apparently there were less than a dozen issued in the entire county (well over 120k people iirc).

There was one issued to an assistant to the Mayor and the investigators assigned to the prosecutor's office also got permits issued. They are non-commissioned and thus need a permit to carry. prosecuting attorney investigators do a lot of investigative work on cases and are basically like a mini police force assigned to the PA's to help flesh out cases after the cops send the cases up to the PA office.

That was it.

Imagine - over 20 yrs in the PD and he had never seen a permit to carry a firearm.

If I was to retire from Maui PD with honorable service record, the day I retired it's turn in the gun time. Retired cops couldn't carry there either, iirc.

Hawaii is probably the most anti-gun state in the nation

I do know that in Lihue, they have a file cabinet in the records unit on the first floor of the PD. The bottom draw is labeled "licenses to carry".

I would imagine like the other counties, most of them are open carry licenses for occupational reasons.

I always thought the real problem was not where O'bummer was born, but where he currently resides.

Basically the only people that are given a carry permit are those who work for armored car type companies. Apparently pieces of paper and metal are more important to be able to protect that mine or my loved ones lives.

I applied and was denied. I guess My reason that I should be able to defend myself and lawfully carry a weapon in accordance with the 2nd amendment was not good enough. Maybe it is because I am just not japanese/hawaiian and I dont "know" anybody. This state is corrupt enough Im sure if you had connections you could get a permit.

It is less than a year now until I move out of this state. Until then I carry a knife. When I get out of here.. Good Riddance!!

You must be a racist. ;) You referr to your self as haole.

Trust me it has nothing to do with your skin color or shape of your eyes. I have plenty of family and loved ones that are brown and Asian, they can't get one either. Your first reason about the guards are correct I have an acquaintance that works for a bank driving and he has.

That being said I love Hawaii the culture and the people, the rulers and what they have done to Hawaii and the massive amounts of harm they have done in making people slaves to government in the form of welfare......not so much.

I would be curious to know who has a concealed carry license. I know Chris Baker has submitted FOIA requests; however, if there is anything I learned from the Federal (and state and local) governments is that they rarely honor FOIA requests as intended unless you have a good lawyer and a lot of money to fight it.

People keep saying armored car drivers; however, they are issued open carry licenses. Hawaii has two types of carry licenses. I know Cayetano used to have a Honolulu County concealed carry permit before he was governor.

I didn't even think about it being an issued OC license, that could very well be what my friend has. Been way to long since I read Hawaii law.
