So I am back from my vacation, I drove down to central Missouri from Washington State, since several states did not recognize my Washington CPL but open carry was legal without license in every state I drove through (except a brief detour through Luverne MN, in which I had to unload and store) I open carried most of the trip.

Here are some examples

Oregon) Pilot truck stop in Stanfield, Baxter Auto Parts Bi Mart and Safeway in Pendleton, Pilot Truck Stop and Super 8 Motel in Ontario
Idaho) Truck stop in Twin Falls
Utah) Mollie's Cafe in Snowville and a Tobacco Shop in Ogden
Wyoming) Little America Travel Center, Conocco Fuel in Wamsutter, TA Truck Stop in Laramie, Motel 6 in Laramie, TA east of Cheyenne near the Nebraska state line
Nebraska) Cabela's flagship store in Sidney, Exxon Fuel in Lexington
Missouri) A QT gas station north of Kanasas City and a Mcdonalds in central MO, can't remember the town
Iowa) BBQ restuarant and Dunkin Donuts in Council Bluff, Scheels in Sioux City
South Dakota, Pilot Truck stop in Sioux Falls
Montana)more stops then I remember, but Montana in general is OC freindly, so is Idaho and Eastern WA.

I was very uncomfortable open carrying in states outside of the Northwest, but I seemed to have no problems.

great isn't it...as you have proven to yourself OC is 'normally' transparent in America...

I can relate as I've open carried in most of the Western States where I was able to determine it was legal. My experience was that I was most uncomfortable the further I got away from Wisconsin!

I'm guessing this is due to a couple of reasons. First, if something goes wrong one would like to be close to home. Secondly, we probably have a better grasp of the laws in our own state, and maybe somewhat more about the surrounding states. Additionally, too many variables to keep track of.

I've always maintained that no mere mortal can keep the gun laws in 50 states straight, especially when the laws for a resident of Washington might be different than for a resident of Wisconsin, while we are both standing in New Mexico. One can do research online, but the laws are constantly changing and even the dedicated carry sites don't always have it correct, or get updated often enough. On top of that even law enforcement is wrong at times.

When I got walked out of the Wausau Balloon and Ribfest, the officer had it wrong and I told him so. When I talked to the Lieutenant the next day, he actually told me that they couldn't keep track of ALL the laws. He regretted saying that I believe......

Anyway, glad you had a good, uneventful due to carry trip. It's kind of hard to believe actually, how few people don't even notice a full sized firearm on your hip. And those that do, few seem to care much.

Sounds like a successful run!

Too bad I didn't know you were going through Ogden, I would've offered to buy you a cup of coffee.

I would have loved to have met people, but half this trip was to help a friend move back from college. I had thunder there and rush back. I got from Ontario Oregon to Laramie one day, and Laramie to Marshal Missouri the next, next day got to South Dakota from MO and South Dakota back to Washington the next.

we weren't making that many stops, other then food and gas.

except for sightseeing in Luverne MN, which I wanted to due because a season of Fargo was set in Luverne and it was only a 30 mile detour.
