Family dinner at CB this evening (not my choice), Rt 360 near Brandermill, Richmond suburbs.

Looked around and a young guy is eating by himself, has a very pretty colt 1911 on his hip.

We finish up around the same time and I excuse myself from my family, introduce myself to him, and ask if I can sit for a second.
Admired his choice of ppd (personal protection device) and ask if he knows, per my latest experience anyway, that CB is not oc friendly.

He says he is 22, lives in Chesterfield, OC's everywhere, and saw no sign, says carries unless asked to leave. I told him about OCDO and VCDL

We both checked outside as we left. Only prohibition was against smoking. He held the door as some people left and the woman definitely checked out his firearm but said nothing.

I wished him a good evening and to carry on, and to check out this site for breakfast on Saturdays.

I have OC'd at nearly every Cracker Barrel in south west VA and southern WV.... Never had any issues whatsoever. I figured a restaurant that keeps a shotgun over the fireplace is good to go!

Riding the fence...

I remember a thread awhile back that said Cracker Barrel was pulling a Starbucks / Target move.

They asked customer not to OC, but are not posting. Someone correct me if there has been an update.

Several years ago we used to have OC breakfast at a local Cracker Barrel. One Sat the manager told us no can do - we left. Worked up the food chain - district manager confirmed, no OC in CB.

Email to Cracker Barrel regarding wanting to hold a Open Carry event. This is the answer...

Dear Mr. Sanderlin,

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with all of us here at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. We're always pleased to hear from our guests.

Open Carry Policy
As we work to achieve our mission of Pleasing People, one of our top priorities is the safety and comfort of our guests, both external and internal. Because of this, and because it is our intent to provide our guests and employees with a relaxed, comfortable, family-oriented environment, we feel its important to review our open carry policy.

Simply stated, our policy is that we will not seat or serve patrons who are openly carrying or wearing firearms unless the patrons are law enforcement officers, security guards, or uniformed military personnel.

We look forward to seeing you in one of our locations again soon.

Sincerely,

Sandra Vance

I wonder if their policy will shift in light of the recent violence in one of their parking lots. They could start posting(as if that would have saved anyone) or maybe become carry friendly.

We do not eat at CB, their food is much to bland, from the last time I ate there over 10 years ago. My daughter bought us a CB gift card so we used it that once, I was very disappointed in the food.

Besides I prefer Mexican/Cuban, Chinese, and Italian restaurants. Funny we have a Mexican restaurant here that the service is lacking, but the food is so good, and inexpensive we still eat there. If they can get there service issues cleared up, they would be slammed with business. It could be that we are not Mexican that is the problem. Or maybe the waitress does not like women, she never refills my wife's glass until I ask her to, this bugs the hell out of the boss.

What Grape said…,

I remember that day, but what I remember most fondly was the great fun we had at River City Diner after we left CB and how happy everyone was!

Regular outings with family require me to occasionally visit our local Cracker Barrel. Just a heads up for those who may have not been there for a while, what used to be a pretty good place to eat has declined greatly.

The quality of the food is still OK, but they have seriously cut back on the size of the portions, almost to a point I would consider to be fraudulent.

One example: they've been cutting the chicken tenders in half, height-wise, so now when you think you are getting 6 (according to the menu), you're actually getting 3, sliced into 6 thin "halves."

Similar issues across the board. I used to leave satisfied, now more often than not, I leave hungry.

Very sad decline in what was once a great product.

They used to have excellent service too, but that has also died thanks to some college idiot that convinced them that a "racetrack" style service was better and more efficient than dedicated waitresses. You order from one person and you may never see that individual again.

I asked the manager what idiot thought up this idea and he said it was ordered by "corporate". I said goodbye and have never been back.

That's an interesting report. Maybe you've just had bad waiters or waitresses. As I mentioned, Cracker Barrel is on our short list of acceptable eating establishments when the family is in town, and while I have seen the waiter/waitress use additional help bringing out the food, I've never seen what you describe here.

The only reason we started eating there was because of the waitress. We followed her from the last place she worked. This idiotic racetrack serving plan was a corporate plan, and it was a complete failure. Another "college graduate" idea that never worked in the food service field.

I knew many of the wait staff by name and they all agreed it was stupid and I was not the only customer that complained. The problem wasn't the staff, it was just a stupid idea. They don't do it anymore.
