Glad to see the elected legislature passed legislation for permitless carry...[caveat I have not reviewed the passed legislation yet per se]

now hopefully the Gov is of the same ilk as the legislature and promptly signs the bill before him!!

sorry forgot a cite: https://www.tennessean.com/story/ne...re-passes-permitless-handgun-bill/7049477002/

PS a rose isn't 'constitutional' carry -- it just means the overseers no longer mandate a 'privilege card' to carry a SD handgun.

[now where are the details of the legislation hidden on al gore's internet...]

This amendment creates a new offense whereby it will be a Class B misdemeanor offense for a person who meets any of the following criteria to carry a firearm with the intent to go armed:

(1) Has been convicted of stalking;

(2) Has been convicted of DUI two or more times within the prior 10 years, or one time within the prior five years;

(3) Has been adjudicated as a mental defective, judicially committed to or hospitalized in a mental institution, or had a court appoint a conservator for the person by reason of a mental defect; or

(D) Is otherwise prohibited from possessing a firearm by federal law as it existed on January 1, 202

How will any officer be able to know that prior to engaging someone carrying a weapon?

The DUI provision is in the current permit law. Basically it seems this requires you to meet all the criteria for a permit, but without actually having to get a permit.

Also as mentioned a LEO really doesn’t have anyway of knowing some of these things,

A far cry from “if you legally own it, you can carry it”

Some more interesting reading.

Is this for Tennessee citizens only or any legal gun owner that is in Tennessee? I live in Kentucky just 1/2 mile from the state line and travel a lot there. While I have a Kentucky permit my wife doesn't and carries here in our home state and I was wanting to know if she can continue across the line into Tennessee.

Iowa just went Constitutional. I believe that makes TWENTY States and more coming.
Long Live the Republic!!

no MSG...as I'm sure you are aware, the legislative signed by the gov is not a constitutional anything, nothing more than wishful misnomer and purposefully mischaracterized for reasons as yet completely unknown tho perhaps future political brownie points...

and your point??

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a new “constitutional carry” bill into law that loosened many gun restrictions.
“We will never be able to outlaw or prevent every single bad actor from getting a gun, but what we can do is ensure law-abiding citizens have full access to their constitutional rights while keeping Iowans safe,” Reynolds said in a statement.
Reynolds said the bill “protects the Second Amendment rights of Iowa’s law-abiding citizens while still preventing the sale of firearms to criminals and other dangerous individuals,” with the state taking “greater steps to inform law enforcement about an individual’s mental illness helping ensure firearms don’t end up in the wrong hands.”
The bill ends the state’s system that requires residents to get a permit from a county sheriff, which Democrats claim will weaken the state’s ability to stop criminals from getting guns.

The Iowa Legislature has approved a proposed pro-gun amendment to the Iowa Constitution for the second time, paving the way for it to appear on Iowans' ballots in 2022.
The Senate approved the resolution Thursday afternoon in a 29-18 vote along party lines after about two hours of debate. Hours later, the House voted 58-41, also along party lines, to pass the same measure. Both chambers are controlled by Republicans. Every Republican present voted in favor of the amendment, while every Democrat was opposed.

did you notice MSG in the topic sentence of the newspeek media you quoted...
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a new “constitutional carry” bill into law that loosened many gun restrictions.

The term is in parentheses which means even the newspeek media knew/know the bill didn't change a bloody word in the Iowa constitution as it has not been nor will be presented to public vote o/a 2022 at the latest, for ratification vote by the citizens of Iowa!

[per 2019 https://www.desmoinesregister.com/s...uage-strengthening-gun-rights-2-a/3150071002/

How does the amendment process work?

Amendments to the Iowa Constitution must be passed by a majority of both chambers of the Iowa Legislature in two, separately elected general assemblies and then placed before the voters on a statewide ballot.

That means that the Legislature will have to pass the proposal again either in 2021 or 2022. The earliest it can be placed on the ballot is 2022.

What mistake caused lawmakers to start over?

The Legislature first passed the proposed amendment last year, before the 2018 election, and would have been on track to place it on the ballot in 2020.

But a "bureaucratic oversight" by the Iowa secretary of state's office set the process back years and may derail it altogether if Democrats retake a chamber in the next election.

Secretary of State Paul Pate's office was required to publish notifications in Iowa newspapers that the Legislature had begun the process of amending the Constitution, but failed to do so. The mistake was discovered in January, as lawmakers convened for the 2019 legislative session.
