Can't get on board with requiring training. Especially basic police training which now days is much to geared to "officer safety " to be of use in an active shooter situation.

They have a constitutional right to carry in schools. No training required.

Now if they want to volunteer to be trained, fine. No raise, but school should cover ALL expenses of that training.

If they are exercising their constitutional Right to carry, it is an infringement to require training.

If they are carrying as an agent of the State, then by all means, I want State actors who carry to have been trained.

I want alot of stuff too. But that's irrelevant.

Not a useful comment. At best, it serves to antagonize. A useful comment would deal with whether or not you think armed State agents should be trained in the use of the firearms they will be carrying (and possibly using) on behalf of the State.

Again, I think police (and teachers, if they are carrying as part of their duties working for government) should be given mandatory training. If teachers are being allowed to carry solely because they have that Right, then I agree that mandatory training is an infringement.

BS flag throw over post one with especially w/inappropriate reporting of detail[s[ or lack therein

All your rants, raves or tirades were false newspeek reporting as posted in nightmare’s cite, quote
North Carolina state legislators introduced a bill that would give trained public school teachers who carry weapons a 5 percent raise. Unquote

Now as paul harvey used to state...now the rest of the story...
Cite local newspeek media...quote

Teachers who sign up for the program would be required to complete basic law enforcement training and become sworn law enforcement officers, known under the bill as "teacher resource officers." In return, a maximum of 3,000 teachers would receive a 5 percent raise.

Recent polling has found most teachers in North Carolina oppose the idea of carrying a gun at school.
Elon University found last March that 78 percent of teachers view it as “mostly a bad idea.” Eighteen percent say it’s a good idea.
Unquote

So now teachers could work part time during their summer vacation off time to cite their student’s parents!

If 22% of the 109634 teachers in NC were armed there would be about 9 armed teacher in each of the 2615 schools in NC. Pretty good odds that this would deter any criminal element intent upon violence once the state published this fact. There could be more or less teachers in any given school, and likely less in urban schools, if any at all. But, the information would be "out there" and deterrence is a good thing.

Alas OC for ME, remember those pushing this referendum want those teachers who carry to complete BLET, take an oath of office and to function as LEs, with arrest powers, etc.

So where does the teacher’s true allegiance lie between the two masters ~ BoEd or the CSOffice. Either way i would bet those masters would be distrustfull of each other...

Just saying

Perhaps. I suspect that the teacher would be more concerned with doing their primary but...in more rural schools. Administrators are more likely to be concerned with your point.

Remember the good sponsorship of this proposal is trying to impress their constituency on how to kill two birds by showing how to put BLET trained but rookie level & inexperienced RSOs into the schools [that worked so well in FL and veteran deputy Peterson didn’t it] AND brag about giving those blended RSO-teachers raises all while saving $$$ for their pet project in their back pocket!

[sidebar...5’10” no necked, middle school science teacher/football/wrestling coach used to scare the liven h*ll out of my six two testosterone rack’d adolescent self and that man didn’t have a need for a firearm ~ just saying]

As BLET & certified law enforcement “resource officers” oh er excuse me i meant to say “teachers” [kindergarten?] be afforded QI as BLET or because they are the teachers who pass everyone to the next grade so they graduate?
