OCing an empty holster, good or bad idea?

I carry an empty holster everywhere we are not allowed to carry here in NC. For us this includes hospitals, movie theaters, restaurants that serve alcohol, posted buisnesses, etc. I wind up in as many positive conversations with an empty holster as I do with a full holster. Nobody has ever seemed upset at the sight of an empty holster. I wouldn't take it off until you're allowed to fill it.

I don't recommend playing games with police officers. It's funny to talk about it, but sense of humor is not currently a job requirement to be a cop.

Personally, I'm sticking with "protected political speech"

If you want to live in fear, that's up to you... It's only a game if the COPS decide to play it... If they don't perform illegal activities, they never find it...

I assert that those in Surry, VA should OC a mannequin's hand doing the 'gun shape' in their holsters anywhere that their firearm is forbidden.... :p

i've only had one issue with an empty holster. Walmart. greeter basically dropped his jaw , untill i said "its empty" then he calmed down. although a week later the same greeter smiled and nodded when i passed him with a glock in the same holster *had dropped my glock off for service on the empty run" .

i see hunters walk around with empty holsters regularly during season. they usually leave the pistol in the truck, and go into the store empty. most people dont have an issue with a holster. except a certain liberal few. i would say go for it :)

Sounds like a way to spread the word. Two things...I would have a something that promotes OC and 2A to pass out if someone were to ask. Maybe carry the infor in the holster.....and I would have a bug in my pocket to back the empty holster up.

When I go somewhere guns are not allowed, schools, boy scout events, and Search & Rescue I wear an empty holster. I do this to let them know that I will abide by their rules, but will let them know non-verbally how I feel. Here in WA I feel that our Thurston County Sheriffs Dept. is violating our state pre-emption laws for our SAR teams.

Ha, I just may... Plenty of fake hands out this Hallow's Eve season.

I am scheduled to be layed off the end of this year, and I plan on wearing my hip + dropleg + shoulder holsters on my last day of work. Was considering carrying bananas but that could work too.

When I was a bailbondsman (small county seat, not metro), I always had to show this one Sherrif Deputy that I had an empty holster ... she was a little bitchy about it so I got to where I just took my jacket off too. That way, when she invariably snarked at me, I only had to turn to show her and not interrupt my conversation ;) It was really funny the day the judge commented in court ... evidently he had heard her say something, so he let me know that if I ever wanted his permission to carry in his court, just ask  She never asked me again and I quit taking my jacket off (I wore the jacket to appear in front of the judge)

As for not carrying in H&H - what's up with that ... as long as you are inside their premises, you can OC ... I have on many occassions! Just wear your CC until inside

I'm moving to Lawton in July. My understanding is that you can OC in OK, but you still need a CPL. Is that correct?

For your read pleasure from OK Governor:

https://www.ok.gov/governor/OpenCarryFAQ.html

Open Carry is legal in Oklahoma only for those who have a Valid Permit/License to Carry a Firearm or those from the Permitless Carry states of AK, AZ, ID, KS, ME, MS, MO, NH, VT, WV & WY.

http://handgunlaw.us/states/oklahoma.pdf

Drop a couple bucks and invest in a WA non-resident since:

Oklahoma Honors Non-Resident Permits/Licenses From the States They Honor.

I have a WA, OR, and UT permit.

Alas, golddigger, the OR & WA permits should void out since you will no longer qualify as a WA resident as those documents are tied to your WA DL and after you obtain an OK vehicle reg & DL once settled in your new residence and start working.

Haha nice! That's a good way to add a hint of humor. Although I don't think my wife would let me do it. Wearing an empty holster everywhere I go already embarrasses her enough.

I would actually like a "support open carry" patch to sow onto my nylon holster (my empty carry hah). Just to make the message a little more obvious. havnt been able to find one though. Anyone know of one?
A better idea would be to put a copy of the declaration of independence in an empty holster.
