Library was a no go. I really did not understand all of the legal bantering. The mom that got crossways with Metro the charges were dropped however ended up losing the suit. The Libraries went on a mission with lawyers to come up with some weasel worded law not allowing firearms.
Park carry is a non-issue. Have not heard of any issues with park OCing for a few years. Earlier this year there was an anti gun group that meet up at Sunset Park for a rally. There was a counter protest of 20 or so OCers. I was one. As a group, we just quietly hung out right next to the group with sings all were OCing. Metro stopped by and chatted for a few minutes with the counter group protesting organizer and a few others, all very friendly. The organizer told the Metro cop as he was about to leave not to worry about the anti gun group’s safety we will protect them also. Words to that affect the cop laughed and left.
I have not been a Metro station for many and have no idea if they are still posted with the no CCing NRS. I have not heard of anyone for a few years trying to OC in.
A great source for Nevada gun info is nevadacarry.org. The guy does a great job with his blogs and gun law info. He has several blogs on the library issue along with many other issues.

Thanks!

I saw on the news the other day the cop shop still has the "no gun sign" (gun w / red circle cross over it) on the front door. My ccw will be coming due soon and so I wanted to hear of any OC issues at Metro. This thread and site in general has lost a lot of traffic. I've just not had anything eventful with OC to share.

Thanks again.

What wording did they come up with?

With the self-appointed wordsmithing experts on this site there is not a chance in hades I would try from memory to post what I believe their trumped up no guns in the library law is. However Nevadacarry.org did a good job of posting on it. Maybe with some research or contacting the Nevadacarry.org owner you could find the info you are asking for.

Thanks for your reply.

I found this report about a request for injunction, where the judge refused to grant it and the library claimed that Ms. Flores was blocking a doorway, and was trespassed for that reason: https://www.reviewjournal.com/local...or-woman-who-openly-carried-gun-into-library/

Unfortunately, I can find no information about whether an appeal was made.

One of the the library's assertions seems to be that it doesn't fall under state preemption because it's not a city or county. It appears that NV's preemption law is not nearly as expansive as Kentucky's, for instance, allowing the library to play such games.

I guess that the the oh-so-helpful Nevadans who infrequently appear on OCDO can't do much more than refer to a site that makes claims such as "Open carry is not regulated in any non-school public building" while failing to acknowledge real-life reality.

Oh well.

FYI she did not lose the suit. She lost only on the trespass charge and that was because of the way she handled herself in the lobby. There is still ongoing legal work. We are standing by for the word on the next step for us to follow with regards to carry in the library.

OC at Galleria Mall Henderson

Went out For a visit to my local mall with my wife and 2 year old daughter was OC a .45 Ruger spent an overall good visit until the end. Made sure to check for any signs that regulated OC or firearms before entering there was nothing posted so I continued shopping passed by a couple of security guards and even used the urnial next to one with out any question of my OC. Final after being there acouple of hours as I was walking to the escalators with my daugther in my hands. I was approached by a security guard confronting me on OC telling me no weapons were allowed on mall premsis and I had to leave immediately. As I was already leaving I thought nothing of it until he than proceeded to Harras me and my family over the radio followed by an escort. That got me a little upset being as I had done nothing wrong and was being escorted out of the mall with my family as a shop lifter would. What should I have done ? Any stories like this before at the galleria ?

When I lived in Las Vegas I worked for the security company that provided security guards to the Galleria Mall at Sunset. I'll give you a little background on the no-firearms policy at that mall.

The Galleria Mall at Sunset is owned by a corporation that is anti second amendment on all the properties they own. I was assigned to the GM@S for a brief while. The security staff is managed be a retired Henderson PD detective who runs the security staff much like a mini-police departments. Some of the information I am aware of is proprietary but I can help explain the no-firearms policy for those who have concerns about this issues.

No Firearms Signs
There are signs indicating that firearms are not authorized near each entrance door. When I was assigned that they were adjacent to the entrance doors but were not very large. But the mall management does have signs indicating the no-firearms policy.

Customers With Firearms
If a customer is observed by either a security officer or a customer who has reported to the security staff you will be contacted by a security officer. The officer should respectfully and tactfully should approach you and advise you that firearms are not permitted at the GM@S. The security officer will request that you either leave the mall and secure your firearm in your vehicle and continue shopping unarmed. The security officer will then escort you to your car. A supervisor may or may not be contacted. After doing this you are more than welcome to continue to shop without your firearm.

What the Security Guard Will NOT Tell You
Every incident of a customer is discovered carrying a firearm it is policy for the security officer to generate an "Incident Report" which will be kept on file in the security office at the mall. They will want you to provide as much information as you are comfortable providing them. This will include your name, address, etc. for the report. The security officer will write down your vehicle information when he escorts you to your vehicle. This is standard operating procedure.

What You Should NOT Do
-Don't give the security officer a difficult time about being confronted when carrying a firearm. Security is not trying to insult your. They are only carrying out the policy of the mall management. It is NOT personal!
- Don't provide security ANY personal information whatsoever if you decided to leave the mall and secure your firearm in your vehicle. Any information you provide will be kept on file in the security office. Less information is better!

Speaking from personal experience I have the unfortunate duty to escort someone open carrying a handgun to his car. Despite the fact that I am VERY pro-second amendment I had a job to do! As I mentioned earlier, the GM@S security manager was/is a retired Henderson PD detective. He runs the security staff with all the gusto of a mini-police departments.

I hope that this helps you understand the no-firearms policy at the Galleria Mall at Sunset.

Thanks for the overview perspective...

i’m afraid the GM security personnel’s attempt to complete the ‘incident report’ as well as escorting me to my vehicle to glean vehicle information would find a complete lack of info and the personnel would be left at the entrance of the mall!

GM mgmt sent their messenger to tell me to leave...end of any further dialogue as far as i’m concerned ~ for the mall’s record/file...

escort me to my vehicle...maybe when the pigs fly in formation!

Solus,

You did the right thing by not providing any personal information to the security officer. The less information you provide them the better! The security guard is caught between a rock and a hard place. The management strongly recommended that we get as much personal information as possible for the incident report. Like you, most people who were asked to leave GM@S were not willing to provided much personal information. I cannot blame you one bit for just leaving the mall the way you did. It was the right thing to do.

I've OC'd in a business or two when I lived in Las Vegas and was asked to leave. No problem! I never spent another dime in there again.

Well done sir! Carry on...

Is there a policy regarding being visibly armed and not entering the structure? In other words, sitting outside, waiting for others to complete their shopping?

OC for ME,

Thank you for an excellent question! It's been a few years since I worked security at the GM@S so I'll have to give this some thought and give you a good answer.

I can't recall any precise policies on carrying firearms in the immediate areas outside the mall building itself. My best guess is that the security staff would likely air on the side of caution and request you not carry a firearm that was visible in any way.

For example, if you were sitting at one of the outside tables near the food court and OC'ing a firearm my best educated guess based upon my experience at the GM@S would be that the security staff would ask you to secure your firearm in your vehicle. Keep in mind that any area within close proximity of the mall structure would get both customer's as well as the attention of the security staff.

Well, thanks for the interesting question! Sorry if it's not the answer you expected.

Something obnoxious, but dignified i’m sure, would be uttered by this gentleman upon interaction with said ‘security staff’!
