Hi Folks

Summer is coming to an end and the NFL football season is here however not without controversy.

The Cleveland police department and members thereof were scheduled to roll out the flag for Sundays opening season game.. However the police union decided that due in part that many Cleveland Brown players are taking a knee as opposed to standing during the Anthem said members of the Cleveland police union will not be rolling out the flag.

If the NFL and or the Cleveland Browns organization contracted with the police and city to perform said function, the union would be in breach of contract. Contract aside I feel the police union is wrong on this issue.

The issue is an interesting constitutional issue. Said players are simply exercising their first amendment right, a right that said police union members swore an oath to uphold and defend, hence I feel they should take the high ground and perform the task at hand.

Interesting to note, when and if the owners bottom line starts to take a hit, I would imagine said kneeling practice would be abolished, until such time look for the practice of kneeling during the anthem to continue...

Thoughts, opinions.

Those players who want to exercise their right to free speech let them do it on their own time and their own dime. I don't see any difference between the theatrics of a few supposed athletic stars deciding to exercise their free speech rights by taking a knee during the time they are on the employers clock and some shelf stocker in Wal Mart deciding to exercise his right to free speech by giving a political campaign speech or even a sermon in the produce aisle while on the clock. Both should be fired.

As I said, until the owners bottom line is hurt, the practice shall continue.

What I have noticed starting last year, that now during the anthem, the networks go to a commercial, hence the league and owners make more revenue from the extra advertising time while also not upsetting fans at home that may be bothered by such practice, what they don't see does not hurt so to speak. ..

" Never can true reconcilement grow where wounds of deadly hate have pierced so deep"..

" It is folly to argue against determined hardness, eloquence may strike the ear, and the language of sorrow draw forth the year of compassion, but NOTHING can reach the heart that is steeled with PREJUDICE. Thomas Paine

How heavy is that hate you carry in your heart? It is an outrage upon the soul, a war upon immortal spirit, and one for which you must give account at the bar of our common Father and Creator.

" We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light"
Plato

This kneeling thing is a media driven topic. A bit off the mark for OCDO...even for the social lounge.

Is not the constitution proper for any thread? We discuss rights and liberties all the time.
In my humble opinion there is much to discuss, contract law, property law, constitutional rights issues.

OC, thank you for your opinion.

No the Constitution is not proper for any thread.

The focus on this site is Open Carrying a holstered handgun as we go about our normal every day business.

Do we not discuss current events and constitutional issues in the Social Lounge?

Our 1A is not the issue. A player kneeing at a NFL game during the playing of the national Anthem is between that player and the fella that signs his paycheck. This "issue" is media driven and I suspect that just about every NFL fan has already made up their mind regarding kneeling NFL players.

And your thoughts on LEO boycotting the event?

Thank you.

Lets put another spin on the kneeling by players...

What if said players announced emphatically that they were protesting the "qualified immunity doctrine" protecting criminal and civil actions of government agents? Would not most reasonable minded constitutional loving folks support said kneeling?.. If they apply a moniker to their purpose said purpose would be much easier to support.
The when, where and how of said protest would be a mute issue...

In my humble opinion all liberty minded Americans should be in protest against "qualified immunity"..
Eliminate QI protection and the constitution starts to take on some real meaning once again along with saving injury and possibly death upon citizens..

Something for us all to ponder. The purpose, not the place, not the object used for the show (the flag), but the purpose...

I am considering having two thousand shirts printed up, to wit,, " Repeal Qualified Immunity".. They should sell like hotdogs at a ball game.

Solus, ILL pencil you in for a medium.. No Charge of Course..:D

Nope, doesn't matter what I (as a fan) support or don't. I don't care if whatshisname was kneeling to protest inequality, to support ending world hunger, or just to give every urban youth a free teddy bear. He's not there to advance an agenda, he's there to do a job.

Let's say I'm the team owner.
I own the uniforms the players wear, I own their pads, I own the equipment used to train them, I own the buses used to transport them and I buy the plane tickets they fly on. They exist to make money for the team, and therefore to make money for me and any stockholders.

Anything they do while on the clock representing me or the team is MY business. If you do some dumb :censored: that might result in loss of revenue for that team, you can go look for another job.

My business, my team, my rules.
Like it or hit the bricks.

No matter how you wish to 'spin" it in an attempt to give validity to those athletes and/or their athletic supporters when they take advantage of the spotlight in order to push their own personal agenda that has nothing to do with what they were hired for ... it still wont fly.

Suppose a shelf stocker at Wal Mart decided to give a speech about Trump being so heartless to all those poor DACA "kids" in the frozen foods aisle. Every soft hearted emotion based Trump hating leftist would applaud that shelf stocker just because of the subject matter but the plain truth is very simply that the shelf stocker needs to be fired because he is being paid to stock shelves and not to give speeches.

The reason for the kneeling, or the speeches, makes no difference if said kneeling is being done on the employer's dime. Unless the employer wishes to pay them for doing that kneeling or giving speeches. Apparently the NFL is willing to pay those athletes for kneeling hoping all the athletic supporters will continue to pay to watch them.

Falls, I stated that until the owners lose money the practice will continue, currently the owners seem ok with the practice.

The employers seem to have no issue at this time.. Obviously their bottom line is not being hurt.

Comparing a Walmart stock boy with a million dollar franchise athlete seems a bit naive. Stock boys are a dime a dozen, said athletics not so much sow.. Unless you feel to pay hard earned money to watch said stock boy, stacking shelves.

Interesting that no one yet commented on whether the police union were right or wrong in backing out of displaying the flag..
