Other than when I'm out running or walking the doggos, I don't OC much. It's not because I have any apprehensions about it OCing, it's that I catch a lot of flak from the people I live with for doing so when running already and it's easier to just conceal, since I have a permit. They're all avid gun owners too and they support the right to bear and keep arms, they're just afraid that if someone sees me with a gun, they might follow me back home and break when nobody is home thinking there's more guns inside.

Anyway, was running in the Leesburg area, lots of people out, nobody batted an eye from what I could tell, but I wasn't in one spot for too long. Having 2 super cute dogs while running probably provided enough of a distraction that even if they weren't on their phones, their eyes wouldn't see my gun.

Also OC'd while watering the flowers outside, washing my car, and getting the mail from the mailbox. No issues there.

Welcome to OCDO, Urban Youth. It's good to see another OCer here. OC as you are comfortable with it and in line with those you live with to keep things placid. Again, welcome!

Nothing wrong with not wanting to ruffle the wrong feathers...or to defecate where one eats, as they say.

OC'd while running around the Ashburn area today. 15 miles, nobody stopped, yelled, or screamed. Police weren't holding me at gunpoint telling me to get on the ground. Successful day.

Oh I know people generally don't make an issue about it, I was just being facetious. OC is much easier for running than CCW is, and the retention on holsters designed for OC are much better in case I take a tumble.

anyway OC'd while running in the Winchester area, nothing out of the usual.

Another fine Open Carry Day in NoVA

My significant other and I spent a delightful mid-day out in Aldie and Middleburg. I was openly carrying a mid-size 9mm. First stop was at the Aldie Mill, part of Northern Virginia Parks & Recreation. It was built 1809 and didn't cease operation until 1971. It's now open on weekends and the Miller actually starts up the water-powered machinery and grinds corn into cornmeal explaining all the steps in the process. Fascinating to watch. There were about a dozen people while we were there and, if anyone noticed, no one said a word about the obvious firearm on my hip.

We then went five miles up John S. Mosby Highway (yes THAT John Mosby, the Grey Ghost of the Confederacy) to the town of Middleburg where we enjoyed a delightful, albeit moderately expensive brunch. Not expensive by Middleburg standards, where the landed estates typically run from $800k to $11M -- or more. Although the Red Fox Inn was busy with just about all tables occupied, and although we were sitting at a table in the center of the room, again no one seemed to notice, or if they did, no one said anything. After brunch we took a stroll around "downtown" Middleburg and drew no attention whatsoever from the passers-by.

A delightful day all around... as it should be.

Another fine Open Carry Day in NoVA

Today my wife and I continued our quest to photograph interesting places in Northern Virginia. Last week it was the Aldie Mill near Middleburg. Today it was the Colvin Run Mill, a Fairfax County Parks Historic Site, about 5 miles north of the Tyson Mall area, up Route 7. There were a few people walking the grounds and the small staff was on duty. The Miller lead us on a tour of the Mill that was built circa 1809 and explained how the mill was built and how it operated. All very similar to the operation of the Aldie Mill.

What was also similar was my openly carrying a mid-size 9mm in an OWB holster. No one -- not staff nor visitors -- made any comment nor was there any indication that they were in fear of my firearm. As it should be.

Upon leaving, I bought a five-pound bag of yellow corn meal that had been milled at the Colvin Run Mill, and anticipate baking some delicious cornbread this fall.

Another fine open carry day in Northern Virginia

Fall weather is finally here and it was a beautiful day for running errands while openly carrying!

Stopped in at Barnes & Noble in Springfield and picked up several books for my reference library, then stopped at the tile store (also in Springfield) to pick up some cleaning and sealing supplies for the counter tops. On the way back we stopped at Home Depot off Edsall in Alexandria for some harry-homeowner supplies.

The 9mm was quite visible in its IWB holster but there were zero observed reactions to its presence ... just another normal shopper, nothing to see here ... as it should be.

Another non-eventful day in NoVA

Spent most of the day running shopping errands with my wife. Visited Bray&Scarff, Ferguson's, Bulbs&Batteries, Starbucks and more, all while openly carrying the 9. No reactions whatsoever, anywhere. Just another day with a 'normal' law-abiding citizen exercising his rights.

A couple of weeks ago I had a lengthy interaction with one of Alexandria City's finest, where I was also OCing the 9. I know he saw it but there was not even the slightest hesitation or comment.

It seems to be quite acceptable among the gendarmerie "up here" north of the Ni.

You do know that anything north of Bull Run is considered to be yankee territory. Per a declaration by a Circuit Court Judge in Fauquier county.

I have contacts in the Culpeper/Spotsylvania area and they have taken over there. I once thought we could hold them at the Rappahannock but they slipped down and crossed at Fredericksburg, then swung west along Rt. 3.

I am sure we can hold them at the James for another few years. Just remember they are yankees up there, bless their hearts.

Born in neutral territory = Nebraska.

Educated in Yankee land = JHU in Baltimore, but had already been inoculated against that virus.

A conservative and a Virginian by choice.

I don't know where your contacts are getting their information, but they have lied to you about the yankees taking over in Culpeper. Culpeper is still holding back the tide of NoVa.

I'm "in among'um" trying to show them that a 'normal' citizen who just happens to openly carry a firearm (properly holstered handgun) is nothing to be fearful of. Having moved into NoVA from The People's Republic of Maryland, NoVA is a wonderful place, IMHO, to exercise my rights. Sadly, given the nature of the elected officials "up here," at times I feel like a salmon swimming upstream to spawn, only to be caught and ripped apart by a liberal/progressive Grizzly.

I know the feeling well, unfortunately.

Lived there for 30+ years before retired and left about a dozen back. Was there this past weekend and it ain't Culpeper no more.

Having lived in Culpeper for over 20 years, and still living here, I agree it ain't the same. That doesn't mean the liberals have taken over here. I'm pretty sure Lynchburg ain't the same as it was 30 years ago either. Heck, I'll bet you got a bigger problem with yankees in Lynchburg then we do in Culpeper.

No, we are holding them at the James so far. But downtown is getting some prissyfrufru type businesses. Could be some of the spies and sappers coming in.
