Best Gun Tune: Marilyn Manson

There are many great tunes that deal with guns.

But as I listen to old disks to get myself psyched for the Marilyn Manson Slipknot concert this summer, I just ran across one that to me is plenty good enough to be my favorite -- at least until someone reminds me of one better:

This surprises me, because I didn't like Manson in his prime. I started appreciating his work after somebody gifted me a CD with a classical string quartet playing his music -- probably as a joke.

So I showed you mine. Show me yours and talk me out of it.

It would seem that the video that accompanied the music in my original post contained some inappropriate imagery.

Oh my.

Well here it is again with less inappropriate imagery.

Still looking for some good competition.

Enjoy!

Lawyers, Guns, and Money of course

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPlMmwOq7U8

Hank Jr. did a nice version in '85 ... the best version I think

Or...

Maybe the best ^^

Or the Skynyrd song "God and Guns"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ET0YvHxZWFE ^^

Warren Zevon has my heart for the poetry in a line in Werewolves of London: "little old lady got mutilated late last night."

However, I am afraid, delightful as it is, the sentiment: "send lawyers, guns, and money; dad, get me out of this," seems a bit too wimpy to qualify as a favorite gun tune.

I might enjoy the song more if the lawyers got the money, however.

I am open to negotiate.

As to Lynyrd Skynyrd's "God and Guns," I can't argue with the awesome power guitar licks. On the lyrics, though might I be so bold as to suggest that in this tune they might be pandering, perhaps just a little?

Still looking for a real contender with Marilyn Manson.

First thought was Zevon's Roland but it is more of an anti-CIA screed. I think I would give it to Sknyrd's Give Me Back My Bullets. Of course you have ZZ Top's double-entendre Gun Love. Daughter told me I should not like Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People...

"Gimme Back My Bullets" truly is one of the greats.

It is better to look at a work of art in isolation from others, but I wonder: is this really enough after "Mr. Saturday Night's So Special?"

ZZ Top is one of my favorite bands. I just bought a six pack CD of their tunes at the used CD store a few weeks ago.

And while I do like the occasional entendre (preferably the triple variety), really how can you forgive a lyric like this:

"She likes the punch deep down in her pistolero
Running with the wild bunch, makin' like a Robert Dinero
She's kinda shy but make no mistake
She'll shoot you full of love till your love bone aches"

^^^ goes right to our RKBA

No better RKBA song IMO --- these folks actually fought valiantly against tyranny.

Very catchy indeed. Like it!

Still it is a rallying song for the Provisional IRA.

Is it possible that I have found an OCDO regular that far to the left of me?

Well bless me mother McRae. May you live to be 100 and still have one more year to repent!

If we are going to get into freedom songs, I prefer the Toyi Toyi from South Africa.

It is catchier IMHO, admitting that I am somewhat biased in that I was blessed to participate in that revolution for a brief time.

In 1989 it was rather scary to see it performed in person on the streets of Durban.

In this toned down performance for modern ANC leaders, watch the performers and the crowd simulate the firing of an AK-47 in dance and song.

Only N'kosi Sigelele Y Africa brought a crowd to its feet quicker. And there was no dancing for that.
