Sooo, I had decided that today I would go into town at about 4 pm.
At about 3 pm I started getting ready for that big event.
I got my comb and hankie, my knife, my ear ring on, my finger ring on, my watch on.
Then I put my wallet in my pocket.
I put on my belt and my holster, oh and shoes.
Also my fresh charged audio/ video recorder.

I never do any of these things unless I am going to town, maybe twice a week or less...
I even switched my EDC in the chair with the home defender on the couch next to me!

Sooo, at 4 pm my coffee was gone, I got up, grabbed my keys, surveyed the room,
I was sure I had done everything right, leaving the house I made sure to lock the door tight,
Then,,, Just to make sure, I checked it again,,, You can never be too careful!

Well,,, As I am getting back into the car after doing my shopping at the store, in town,,,
It struck me as being kind of weird, that it seemed a little easier than normal to
plug in my seat belt in way of the normally carried, left hand, cross draw Llama 38 super,,, Why???

Imagine if you can, my chagrin when upon close examination,
That my careful preparation had failed at the last minute,
To actually, holster that EDC!

You dont need to worry,,, I still got home OK!

Some of the only moderators we have are known to have attended social occasions sans their purdy gun riding in that fancy holster on their hip.

My routine for going out the door is to stop and do the "make the sign of the cross" thing - spectacles, testicles, watch and wallet + medical device and handgun with reloads. And most importantly of all, digital voice recorder turned on and spare batteries in the shirt pocket.

stay safe.

I will now,,, ALWAYS holster my pistola as soon as I put a holster on my belt!!!
That is what I always did in the past,,, but I put off till later this time,, it wasnt 4 pm yet...
That was the mistake,, thats why it got forgot.

I had the opposite happen to me...

When I wake up in the morning, my XD comes out from under the pillow and into my holster. I carry at home as well as when I'm away. I work from home a lot so the feeling I have when I'm not carrying is like being naked in front of a crowd. One place I cant carry is at my employer's office. When I leave for lunch, the paddle holster comes out from under the seat and back on my hip, where it belongs. A few months back I sat at my desk after having obtained a sandwich from Jimmy John's. I noticed it felt a bit weird in the chair and a quick inspection revealed that I had walked cross the parking lot, into the building, and down the hall past several other offices wearing my sidearm. I guess no one notice because I still have a job. Ooops.

This is why I like my SERPA with the quick disconnect attachment. That way it never needs to leave the holster unless using it, cleaning, etc.

Not once, but twice a semi lifetime ago - did have my BUG with me though. The 2nd time, I went back home, got my EDC and arrived a little late - properly dressed.

Still a painful but good reminder to check and double check.

Your memory is gooder :(..:)

I guess I'm a newbie and please pardon my ignorance but why a voice recorder?? The gun I get of course but what's the need for a voice recorder?

Some folks like to carry a recorder ... in their opinion it may offer some relief to unwarranted arrest.

IMO it just creates a record that can be used against oneself in court.

When I record, I only ask questions, never provide any probative responses or statements. So I do record occasionally..usually when I am on a specific goal. Always recording? Not me.

Pros and cons ..

A digital recording will provide a history of what transpired when the bg accosts you or the anti claims you threatened them and it did not happen. No lost time or motion to turn on a cell phone or similar.

I leave the house and it is on, if nothing unusuual happens it is saved to a folder for several days before being deleted.

Many of us use dash cams for much the same reason. It's like insurance - good to have, hope we don't need it.

In the summer, it being so hot, shorts and t-shirt not tucked in means my steel 38s would lay against my skin. Not good. So, in the summer I would carry a kel-Tec P3AT - 380. Back pocket or front pocket neither comfortable nor providing quick access. Yes, that is my feeling and belief. Because it's uncomfortable I would take it out of my pocket when I would get home, meaning I did not always have a gun on my person at home in the summer months. Not the best scenario; meaning walking out of the house unarmed.

I did not like carrying my S&W M&P 9C because it weights 5 ½ oz. more than my S&W 38s J frame. That additional weight is noticeable and uncomfortable.

To resolve the problem I recently purchased a S&W M&P -9 Shield. Depending on what mag the shield weighs the same or a tad more than the revolver. An acceptable alternative. A gun on my hip morning, noon and night.

I hope the problem is solved.

This a very interesting thought. I have been having a similar internal argument for quite some time over getting a dash cam.

Some of us, after extensive practice, have learned at least the basics of verbal judo http://www.amazon.com/Verbal-Judo-Persuasion-Updated-Edition/dp/0062107704 and/or verbal jujitsu http://www.alpharubicon.com/prepinfo/verbaljujitsugoshin.htm

A lot of it revolves around my attorney's basic advice for dealing with authority figures: Keep Your Big Mouth Shut. More of it revolves around controlling both the flow and direction of conversation - often by Keeping Your Big Mouth Shut. If you do that plus record the statements, comments, demands, pronouncements and opinions of the authority figure(s) it can in fact offer relief from unwarranted interaction whether that be harassment by refusing to terminate a consensual interaction when the other party indicates a desire to do so, an unnecessarily long detention only for the purpose of the authority figure uses the time to expound on things other than the law and alleged violations there of, or comments made at the scene which are not congruent with later official written documents.

If, OTOH, you tend to be argumentative and let your mouth write all sorts of checks then it can be used "against" you.

A lot hinges on being willing to endure certain hurts on the street in order to resolve the argument in the courtroom. Having family that depends on your not having income stopped because you are sitting in jail often influences the decision to try and settle the matter on the street. Very few of us can at least afford to be locked up while waiting for justice. An exceedingly small number can afford the expense of fighting against the unjust arrest/charge.

stay safe.

I know Skid remembers my Food Lion incident, enough LEO's to make a ball team, limited consensual conversation on my part, had pictures and digitally recording. Walked away and sat down in a restaurant - staff lied to the manager about what happened. The recording saved the day with Food Lion and with the restaurant, also the LEO Sgt who led the phalanx that night was apparently forced to resign shortly thereafter.
